So I am on my way home from work and I see this...  Fitting considering that when I arrived home I had this waiting for me...  Had a tough few months and unfortunately had to let just about all of my gear go. But, my dear Z brothers, I am amp-less no more (thanks mustachio!)!! And the tone is glorious!! VERY glad to be back! |

This time I've got the Red Fang in the combo. The last one had a Ramrod and then I switched to a greenback. Looking forward to the experience of a new speaker.
I was able to play at an extremely low volume last night, and all things considered, it was great. I know it wasn't anywhere remotely close to the amps full potential, but there was just this clarity that was just awesome. I can't wait to get some time to open her up a bit!

I'm very happy with the RF in mine. Yes, it's loud / efficient. That works for me.

There are many who like the Red Fang...there are those that don't. I'm one that "don't". It's WAY too loud for me. And it had a bit of a lower midrange hump in tone that was not desirable. But I'm playing teles in a country band...so I got a 10" gold...that that solved all my speaker problems.
I probably could have lived with the tone...but the volume issue killed it for me. (I have a Remedy if I have a louder gig) The whole idea of an 18 watt 1x10 combo was that it wasn't supposed to be so loud.
From what I remember, I could see the tone of the RF working well with a more rock and roll environment....especially with humbuckers.

Don't play rock and roll,but the ghia with the les paul gave it that second chance.Cant beat the portability of that amp.
Yes the red fang is a loud sob...but lately I have needed every db I can get my hands on with all the other high powered amp's these guys show up with...if this was just a gigging amp...I would move to a sweeter speaker.Its working for me though...Just got to coax the goodness out of that rf. |

My Ghia often lives in a Z 1x10 that originally came to me with a Monza and a Red Fang loaded in there. The RF is VERY loud. I've struggled with it, even complaining about the RF when I had a Z-28. I have come to appreciate it's ability to coax headroom out of seemingly any amp and it does take fuzz very well IMO, probably due to its aggressive mids. I much prefer the Gold 10" with the Ghia but sometimes tire of the sizzling highs I sometimes get. Maybe I'm not pushing it enough, but it should be broken in as it was pummeled my my old Route 66 for a while LOL. I am now totally in love with 10" Greenback w/ the Ghia and that goes for my main three guitars (Hwy 1 Tele modded, 335 Dot, and LP w/ Lollar P90s). I don't need more efficiency most of the time and if/when I do I just grab a 1x12 or will use the Remedy once it returns from House of Z  |
