Hey gents,
I am thinking of installing a brake lite in each of my 2x12 Z cabs. Is this doable? Mount then inside the cab and plug which ever head into them as I go? are there any other good ideas I should consider?
I only have 1 combo amp (RX Jr) and with a stangray on the way and a Z Wreck in my near future I'm starting to think about attenuation since I mostly play at home these days....
thoughts? Thanks!

Yep. You can, but I'd get a stand-alone to avoid the work below.
You can reuse the 1/4" jack that comes with the BL. Desolder it from the wires. So you will have just the pair of wires coming from the top of the BL. These two wires will go to the jack cup. WATCH POLARITY!!
Desolder the two wires from the speaker connection cup. Pay attention to polarity! Mount the BL. I find it easier to work inside the cabinet, but protect the speakers and be careful. The wires that went from the cup to the speakers now get soldered to the 1/4" and plug it into the bottom of the BL. NOTE THE POLARITY You will most likely have to shorten the wires.
The pair of wires from the top of the BL get soldered to the cup. POLARITY! YOu may have to shorten the wires.
This is simplified but protect your speakers when soldering... or if you're not comfortable carefully remove the wires from the speaker.
That said I'd get a stand-alone

I just did basically this but in a 1x10. I had my Ghia chassis in the 1x10 with the Brake-Lite (regular, not Standalone). I then decided to move the chassis back to the head cab and run the cabinet as a regular cab, but wanted to leave the BL in it. To avoid any modifications to the BL (cutting plug off, etc.), I soldered a female Switchcraft plug to the wires coming from the jack cup, then secured this inside the cabinet with adhesive cable tie mounts and zip ties. Then I just plugged the BL plug into this.
You would still need to install a 1/4 plug on the wires connected to the speaker so you can plug into the bottom of the BL, but this is at least a way to avoid modifying the BL itself.
All that said, if you don't already own a BL, I'd buy the Standalone version as bluzman suggested. Much easier and you could just buy one instead of installing one in each cabinet. In my case I already had the regular BL, otherwise I probably would have just bought the SA

I've mounted BL's in both of my Z speaker cabs... works great!
