Ghia Les Paul (type) heaven.
Got my Lentz Croyden Carvetop.
I will be getting another speaker to replace the TT Alnico first chance I get with something better matched wattage wize. Need to read all the advice I ignored in the past. Prolly try a blue first.
The little beast has awoken.

I personally found the TT alnico to be a rather dark speaker. Not for me. Bought it used, got rid of it fast. I didn't use it with the Ghia, I used it with a Maz jr. but the same applies.

I remember that incident John. I've been drinking my own cool aid.

What are you gonna try instead? A Gold per chance?

What are you gonna try instead? A Gold per chance? A blue or v30 to start with. I remember Myles talking about a 50 watt speaker doing nothing for at 18 watt amp.

I tried a 1x12 with the V30 just the other day...I liked it...I've never played a Blue, except my old Peavey Blue Marvel

A 60 watt speaker like the V30 will do just fine with an 18 watt amp like the Ghia. I think what Myles means is that the SPEAKER won't break up at all with an 18 watt amp. There are many on the forum that like the V30 with the Ghia. Lower wattage speakers like the 15 watt Blue and the 25 watt greenback will experience some breakup when being pushed hard. (Well, all speakers will eventually start to distort (breakup) at some point...it's just a matter of 'at what power level') V30= very hard rock type speaker.
The same speakers (blue and greenback) won't flinch when being hit by a 5 watt amp....same concept.
The V30 has an upper mid spike in tone that many don't like. Most people either like it, or they don't. But that upper mid spike in tone really cuts through the mix in a gigging situation.
And if you try a NEW V30.....they sound terrible new. Very nasal. They need to be broken in. I had one sit on a shelf for 2 years because I thought it sounded like crap. Then I hooked it up to my PA head, ran bass/drum loops through it for 40 hours. After that, it was wonderful! It still had the same upper mid spike in tone, but, but it was more balanced.
Personally, if you decide on the V30, I'd buy a used one. Better chance of it being broken in...or at least somewhat broken in. There are LOTS of V30 speakers for sale on ebay. And relatively cheap. The blue on the other hand....very expensive.

Take a look at Weber Blue Dog (12") or Blue Pup (10"). I had great success with those in my Ghia rig, and Z28 rig come to that, and not super expensive either

I was trying to get move my grosh electrajet VT in light of what the croyden stands for. Best offer so far was a Fuchs Lucky 7 and it's matching 1x12 V30 cab (broken in by the seller who's a stellar player) and some cash. Was thinking about it but it's really just a high gain amp, too loud for the house, too soft for a band. With a guitar like the croyden, I was thinking the ONE guitar is plenty, but my friends say I should hang on to it.
I've heard that about V30, the nasal thing, and the breaking in being essential. Actually in hind sight ( at work right now ) the TT did sound devilishly good, especially clean, was wondering if something lower powered had more to offer. The last time I tried to pull the speaker out it was stuck to the baffle in the Dr.Z convertible cab.
I'm now thinking I'll leave it as it is and get the Dr.Z 1x10 cab and stick the ghia in there, could really do with a portable combo. Writing from India and using a step down 240V to 110V. Probably time to order the cab/speaker and a mod the amp with a new 240V Dr.Z transformer.
Gotta read up on 10s. Any preferences with the ghia and a single 10" speaker?

^^^
Red Fang works like a dream with the Ghia, but it's a loud, and expensive, speaker.
Weber Blue Pup (Ceramic for me, but others like the Alnico better) is also an excellent speaker, less efficient so quieter and earlier break up, and WAY cheaper than the RF - when I get my 1x10, I'll be putting one in there again.

I did not like the Red Fang with mine. Really loud and it had a lower mid spike in tone. (no nearly as bad as the upper mid spike of the V30) The Fang came out of my 1x10 real fast.
I put a Celestion 10 inch Gold in there. That's the sound I was looking for. And not as loud as the Red Fang.

Sounds like that Gold is something special. Maybe if it had been around when I had my Ghia, I might still have it

Recently I bought a very beat up EV12L for my Z-28. It sounds amazing, but what is even better, it makes the Ghia sound incredible. I haven't been using the Ghia for a few years but it'll be seeing some serious service now!
