Just seeing if anyone might have an answer for this...I purchased an entire new set of tubes for my Ghia from the thetubestore.com (linked from Z website). I used deoxit on the old tubes, ran them in and out a few times of each socket to clean. Installed the new tubes and I got a good bit of crackling noise...whether or not something was plugged in.
It was so bad at rehearsal, I reinstalled the old tubes and the crackling stopped. Came home, re-cleaned sockets with deoxit, installed new tubes again, same crackling noise. Put the old tubes in, no crackle.
Should brand new tubes do this? Could they be a bad set?

I'm sure the complete new set isn't bad, but just one tube is causing the crackle. Believe me this is not uncommon. So, put in the new set wait for the crackle then swap one at a time your old tubes and find the culprit. I'm sure The TubeStore will replace the bad one. Tell them what you did on my direction and you should have no problem.

I only installed the 2 power tubes so that'll be easy to chase down.
I'll hit up thetubestore.com too and see what they can do...
Thanks Doc!

Hey robert, i'll be glad to take a look at it if you need help, I have a bunch of extra tubes to troubleshoot too. The tube store is good about replacing bad tubes, it does happen but not too often.

my guess is one of the pre-amp tubes. if the old ones were working, i would put those back in. I normally dont replace those until they fail or check them one at a time.

Thanks JT - I bought a whole set for back up and only put in the two new PT's. Old ones are fine but the new one(s) crackle...must be a bad one (or two). I'll let you know if continues. BTW - Gigging that Ghia I got from you steadily now...love that amp for Chicago blues stuff. Aug 31, 2013 11:27:35 GMT -7 Rik said: "I bet not many other company owners chime in to help out!
