Not sure if this has been discussed previously, but I thought I'd see if there is any consensus as to how many hours a quad of JJ power tubes last before beginning to sound less-than-great. I put a fresh set in about 12 months ago & I could probably come up with a rough number on the hours. But I'm curious what others are doing ... anyone track the hours? Thanks.

If I understand it, the Remedy doesn't cook the tubes the way an EL84 amp does, so they last a lot longer. I can't remember where I heard that......... so it could be entirely wrong.

Not sure how many hours. I have had my quad in for about 5 or 6 gigs now and home practice as well. I do know that only the JJ tubes can be used for replacements because they can handle the voltages.

I put aprox. 80-90 hours on a set(JJ's) last year. I ordered a new set earlier this year and was sent a set of Tung-sol re-issues by mistake. I put them in and have aprox. 40hrs so far without any issues. I suspect they are starting to fade though. Going to get another set of JJ's and compare.

Is it safe to assume you replaced the JJ's at 90 hours because you perceived the sound was degrading? kc

To what extent I'm not sure, since I put in Tung-sol's. I have a gig tomorrow and will bring home the amp and put in the JJ's that I replaced. Now I'm curious myself to hear the difference.

I probably had at least twice that many hours on a set of JJs with my Remedy, and I think it was just starting to degrade a bit. I didn't feel like that amp was very hard on tubes at all

The JJ's seemed a bit cleaner, while the Tung-sol's had a bit more chime. I'm thinking my perception that either set was fading was maybe due to a new venue? Maybe it's just my old ears that are fading. I also did some digging and found that John had asked Myles how many hours can the 6v6's in the Remedy be expected to last. His response was 1000+ hrs would not surprise him.(page 63 of "ask Myles" in the ask the experts forum).

I just changed out an original set of JJs from my 2012 Remedy. Not sure how many hours but at least 60 to 80.
I could not tell any difference in tone or feel with the new set.
