Hello everyone,
I am using a delta 88 with a z best and love the tone. The thing is that this amp is really loud.. I've tried the air brake, which is ok, but I find it hurts the tone.
Would switching to the Z 1 by 12 cabinet lower my volume by half? Or make any volume difference at all?
I do not know how this works, maybe you guys can help me out....
I am also looking into a Maz, would it sound better as a combo or with a 1 or 2 by 12?
thanks!

Yes, a 1x12 will not be as loud as a 2x12...IF the speakers are the same model. It will not be 1/2, but somewhere inbetween.
Your Z best is probably loaded with Celestion G12H speakers. Aside from the sonic charactaristics, these speakers are rather loud (compared to others) This speaker loudness rating is measured in decibles (db) A G12H is measured at 100db
By contrast, a Celestion G12M (known as the Greenback) measures only 98db. This may not seem like much, but it is a measureable difference.
This means the Greenback will not be as loud as the speakers in your Z best for the same amount of power.
I'm not saying run out and get Greenbacks...but I'm saying there are alternatives. (Greenbacks sound a little different...noticably: a bit less bass)
Also, if you're considering a 1x12 with a Delta 88, you better watch out and make sure the speaker can handle the power. A Greenback is rated at 25 watts, a G12H is rated at 30. While it's known they can handle a bit more than their ratings, it's a pretty sure thing you'll blow them with a Delta 88 running at a decent volume.
A Celestion G12K-100 is rated at 100 watts and is rated at 99db.
It's just that the Delta 88 is a FREAKIN loud amp.

BUT, be careful with 2 Greenbacks and the Delta 88. Perilously close to the limit if not actually over. That amp has got to do at least 60 watts and I'm sure actually more at clipping.
