I too liked the Greenback but it just didnt have the headroom I needed...now this Weber 1225 on the other hand might be a good alternative...read the thread in the Cabs and Speakers section if you havent already

I was thinking along the Greenback "sound"...and was thinking of trying something more higher powered with a medium breakup// I have a tonker in my MAZ38 but it is really loud..great sound, but sometimes it can be too much if you don;t reign it in. I could try it with the 28 but I can;t see it doing what I want it to in this application...could always spring for a Celestion Gold or play it as is and let in settle in some... I just feel there is a speaker out there that will fit this amp like a hand to a glove, the 30 does not sound bad but it is missing something and its a bit harsh at times....if anyone has experience with a Gold let me know. thanks

I have never used one, I will check out the specs;/reviews then see what the Weber sight has to say, maybe a sound clip or two. I like the g12H anniversary and I have a brand new one, came out of my MAZ;;but its hellashus bass....has tons of low end, maybe too much in this application....I will give it a try for grins and see how it sounds...checking on the Weber now....got the speaker jones goin;' on.....just a thought, funny I hardly ever get the GAS for guitars...I have the same strat I had 20 years ago...tele, LP and some others as well....I sort of now look at the amp as the instrument so to speak and the guitars as the tool to make it play....enough of that wandering, off to the Weber sight...

I've got a two week old Eminence Private Jack if you want the Greenback type tone, but with a 50 watt rating... 8 ohms, an broken in from 5 or 6 gigs with Route 66 or Maz 38...

I guess I'm in the minority here. I have played mine through a 50 watt Ceramic Blue Dog (good) and a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell (better) and both in combination but I seem to prefer the Z-28 through American voiced speakers. The Weber 12F150B, 12A150, 12A150B & 12A150W (all 25 watt light dope) all seemed to bring out more of what I was looking for in the amp. My current favorite with the Z-28 is a home-made 2x12 open back pine cab with the 12F150B and 12A150W.
The Carmen Ghia head sounds best through the British voiced speakers, the Silver\Blue combo or the Cele Blue in the Maz 18 combo.

The Z-28 is the most Fender-y Dr Z amp and I've used a couple things toward that end. I like an Emi RW&B or Texas Heat. A couple sleepers are the Emi Wizard (GREAT all around speaker) and the Tonespotter despite their Red Coat designation. I find the Wizard sounds a whole lot like the old stock Oxfords (T series) that Fender used in their blackface Twins (NOT the awful K series found in the old bkackface DR's). Then as tele62 mentioned, Greenbacks or similar have a nice growl. I actually find the Emi Private Jack tighter on the bottom and less low midrange mushy as a Greenback. Or whatever Weber is calling their version of an old Jensen P12Q for a more early 60's Fender brown series sound. Curt...you treat my old red headed girl friend nice, y'hear? ;D

I agree that an american voiced speaker would best suit the Z 28. I settled on a pair of Eminence Red White & Blues in a Mojo 2x12" cab to go with my Route 66..... Great combination. This cab sounds awesome with my buddys handwired '64 Vibroverb clone too.
We'll be trying the Cannabis Rex with both amps in the next day or two. If I had a Z 28 these would be two of the first speakers I'd look at (RW&B and C Rex).
