Hi Gang,
Okay, I've had my new Remedy for a bit now and am really starting to get used to turning the knobs and getting the sounds I want out of it very quickly.
Since buying this amp I have NOT turned on an OD pedal but once or twice because the amp has a such wonderful break up. I was in the studio a few days ago I needed a clean tone, I broke out my tele, dialed the amp back and "blam" there was a very nice bell like clean sound.
I like how I can use the High and Normal Loudness knobs to dial in gain and tone. Normal is thick and fat and little dark with little gain where the High is crispy and crunchy and brighter. Blending the two together and the tone knobs are almost not needed.
The half power switch on this amp is really awesome, I have a cab with a single Greenback in it and the amps 40 watts is probably more than that speaker wants so I hit the half power switch on the back, rolled up the master volume up to compensate and I was in business (I must say the green back sounds really tastey with this amp, as does my 2x12 with my vintage G1265's).
The main reason I went to this amp is I wanted to get one amp that I could cover a lot of ground with but mostly in the OD area. As most of your know, I am big fan of the Monza and the Z28's and my hope was that I could cover some of the ground that both of those amps allowed me to cover but keeping to one amp (I'm trying to be fiscally responsible and keep one awesome amp in the house at a time). The Monza has a very awesome high gain OD, very organic, rich and full. It has a tremendous "roar" to it and I just love it! The Z28 has the most amazing cleans and when it is starting to break it is just wonderful (Z28 owners know exactly what I am talking, nothing else does this sound like the 28 does).
The facts are this, the Remedy does not do either of the sounds that I was looking. In true Dr Z style, the Remedy has an entirely different set of tones that are all its own. The cleans, the dirt, the roar are all its own. It does not sound like a Z28 or a Monza at all, it does other tones that are just as wonderful but completely different.
Bottom line, I'm really digging this amp, I was totally surprised by the different sounds and functions I could get out if, the Master Volume and Tone bypass are a must have, get the 2013 version or have an older one modded, you won't regret it. Of course, I still want a Z28 and Monza . . . . thanks Dr Z, this amp was supposed to my GAS "Remedy" but all it did was create a need I didn't know I had!
God bless Dr Z,
Todd
