Can you get a Z-best with no speakers at all or with a diffferent speaker combination?
I'm not really a V30 kinda guy, and I'd rather have a Gold/G12H30 combo in the cab.
The other thing I don't know about is horizontal/vertical Z cabs. Are there different versions? The ones I've seen have been vertical (which I prefer), but I'm under the impression there are horizontal versions as well.
What's the standard impedance/wiring setup of a Z-best? I'd prefer it was setup for 16 ohms total with 8 ohm drivers (like my 2x12 Open back).
Ultimately, I'd like to have two Z--bests set up with different driver complements. One would be Gold/G12H30, the other would be Blue Dog/Silver Bell.
Of course, then I could run BOTH at once and have tone hugeness to make a full stack envious:)
Please educate me on Z-best cab options...
Thanks.

Hi Justin, You can swap for different Celestions when you order one....for example getting a Greenback in lieu of the Vintage 30. However, there are speaker "Upcharges" for something like a Gold. www.drzamps.com/pricing.htmlDoc doesn't sell unloaded Cabinets normally. I've seen Z-Best Cabs in different ohms....I like 16 ohm speakers for an 8 ohm total load, but you can probably do what you want. There is only one version of a Z-Best that has rubber feet on two sides. You can stand it up vertically, or lay the thing down horizontally. Most Z Heads fit perfectly on top of it in the vertical position....and you will find it is a very slender, yet powerful while not taking up much space on stage. If you were to use an old Marshall Head, you would probably lay it horizontally. He will put the "Z" logo on either way as well. Hope this helps. Mark

I have 2 different Z best cabs. One is a 2x12 closed cab with stocked speakers that can be laid horizontally and vertically. The other one is a 2x12 open back which can placed horizontally. Both of these cabs are wired differently. If I am not mistaken,my open cab with C-Blues are wired for 4 Omh,and my other cab with closed back came with stocked speakers are wired for 16 Ohms. Different speaker options are available for an upgrade charge.
Doc does not sell unloaded cabs from what I've told by several people on the forum.

I thought the "Z Best" cab is the front ported cab that has feet for both horizontal and vertical placement? Any of Z's other cabs are not called "Z Best."

You might be right on that.I could be out of base, not sure about that ,been told as I've mentioned in the previous thread. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, the 2x12 closed back cab is the only one called a Z-Best. Yes you can get other speakers for an upcharge. No you cannot buy them unloaded.
I just know cause I asked all the same questions as I was ordering my 1x12 open back Z non-Best cab.... ;-)

MMMkay--
So I have my 2x12 Open back. Now I just need a closed back Z-best setup for vertical usage.
I'm also toying with building an inline 4x12 where all the speakers are in a row, like a Z-best. Then I can get the tonal hugeness I want without the floorspace footprint that I don't.
Long term, I'd like to get a RT66 and stack it on top of a Z-best.
Then this would be my "dirty" amp setup with the Z-best (and I'd feed the Recto Pre to it), then use the Stang as my "Clean" amp through the open back Z cab.
Then I start to realize that I'm just greedy. I mean, there are guys who've spent much of their lives (not to mention fortunes) trying to get tone as good as Doc has given us. So, yes I play the headgame of what's next, but I'm always aware in the back of my mind that if I never own another amp, I'll still be incredibly blessed to have the Z amp/cab I have now!
