I just got a supposedly early Z Best 212 with two 30 watt AlNiCo Weber P12Z's. Any one know anything about these cabs/speakers? How do they differ from Blue Dogs/Silver Bells? Why aren't they used currently? Any one know the impedence of these cabinets? Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm really excited to get this cab. I just got a Mazerati and have found that the cab makes a huge difference.
I took it to my local guitar shop (where I worked for five years) to brag and show off, but it sounded back through all the high powered cabs they had in the store.
At home, I have a particle board (homemade) type of 212 (open back) with Vintage 30's in it and it sounds pretty good. I have a marshall 412 with Vintage 30's and a '70's Marshall 120 watt 412 with rola Celestions in it and the '70's cab crushes the others.
The '70's cab crushes the others, the Vintage 30's seem to be really midrangy and bright. But the 412's in the '70's cab move too much air. I bought the Mazerati so I could get great tone at a reasonable volume. I know that the Z best is supposed to be loud, but I hope it can attain great tone at a reasonable volume. That's why I'm into AlNiCo speakers anyway for this. Thanks again

Man... I had a Mazerati and it wasn't quiet. Depends on what you're used to though, and how efficient your speakers are. If you're used to a 100 watt Marshall the Mazerati might be a little quieter...

Yeah...I've noticed that the Rati is pretty noisey but I just want it to break up earlier (or at least want to break up earlier). So the 212 and 60 watt cab should be better...right?

I used an Airbrake with mine so that I could get the power amp into the tone equation. Couple clicks down, and turn the volume up past 2 o'clock, and that amp started singing big time. I still have a Mazerati page on my web with a load of clips I did while I had it. You can hear that it definitely gets into some overdrive: www.gear.strayca.com/mazerati.htm

Man! I've been looking for your page for a week now...I stumbled upon it while researching my Z and was intrigued by all the speaker swap stuff. Since getting my Z, I've been looking for your site to figure what kind of speakers I want. I think this old ZBest with the Weber's will be great.

Yeah, I need to get my act together and consolidate all of my web pages under one banner - then >>>I<<< could find them again!
