Hey all, I could use a little advice/opinions. A Weber Blue Dog (Alnico) 12" speaker, a couple months old, is available locally for $140 I do not know the wattage yet. (I believe it is 50 watts)
What I would like to know is would I benefit from buying this: 1) To experiment in the Z Best cab that I should be receiving any day 2) Is this a fair price? 3) What are the positives and negatives about this speaker?
I have a Stang Ray and a Maz 38 (heads). I would probably also get a 1-12" cabinet to play around with it. Would it favor either of these 2 amps better than the other?
Thanks folks!

Brand new they are $175. That's about all I know about the Alnico version.

$140 sounds about right. A 50 watt alnico Blue Dog sounds like a Celestion Blue, but a bit darker & "meaner" sounding. Still has pristine cleans & great chime, just not *as* pristine as a blue. 15 watt alnico version is very close to a Blue, but even still has a touch more girth to the lows. Very subtle, though. For my tastes, I've never been a fan of Celestion Blues. Just always thought they sounded wimpy for what I do. Sure, Brian May rules... But they just don't work for me. The Webers slightly darker quality is much more my bag-o-chips. But hey, if you really want a Celestion Blue, go getcha one. I'm probably in the minority in terms of folks who don't dig 'em...

Oh, and by the way, it won't favor either one of those amps over the other. It sill do the Stingray justice.. You'll definitely be able to get jangly, classic AC30 sounds. The MAZ 38 is less jangly and a bit more ball-sy, but blues sound great on those, too. Can't go wrong with a Weber blue.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll let this one go.. Just got the Z-Best so I'll spend some time breaking that in.
Jayson are you gigging in BNA anytime from March 1 to March 9? We'll be out there house-hounting and I'm sure I'll need a night of music to shake off the real estate games!
