Hey Tonehounds, has anyone ever tried using your Z Best without the backpanel on? Or has anyone tried a halfback type backpanel? Im curious what that might sound like? Flametop.,

The thing is, taking the back off destroys the function of the port, so it will defintitely change the sound of the cab bigtime. I would expect that the main thing you would give up would be bottom end. I've seen the doc comment on here that the Z-Best is tuned for 30 Hz. That's really low frequency for guitar, but if you disable the port by removing the back, that tuning is going to rise a LOT. It could be that the rolloff will move up from 30 Hz to maybe 100 Hz or even higher. I don't think there's any data on that, so I'm totally speculating.
One thing is for sure - you can try it. It wouldn't cause any harm, and who knows, maybe you'd like it with the response changed like that.

I'd think if you open it up the post would be useless as Steve said, and it wouldn't do what a Z Best is good at. Might as well use a lighter weight open back cab.
