My Z Best started flapping and farting really bad the other night. When I got it home I checked it out and sure enough, the bottom speaker is blown. My amp is 45 watts, and the Heats are 150watts each. I've never blown a speaker in 20 years of playing. What are some causes? I'm gonna retire the ZBest for a while. Gonna go with a 4x10.

How are the speakers mounted? Beam blockers? How tight are your screws? Anything warping the basket?

That sounds pretty incredible that the Texas Heat blew given the power ratings involved. It may be worth a warranty call to Eminence.
I have a Texas Heat in my Maz Studio Deluxe 1x12 combo, and like it quite a bit.

I'm curious - how old was that speaker?

I put them in the cab around November of 04.
It is hands down my favorite 12" speaker.

Whatever happened with this - did you determine a cause?

I blew a Red Fang about a year ago, sent it back, and they sent me a brand new one. They determined it was a manufacturing defect.

Send it back...It should not have blown.
...but then again, once you use the 4x10 you will be hooked.
