I have a Rt 66 head that I really enjoy. The bandleader I work for is on a campaign to lower stage volume. I was wondering if anyone has experimented with a 1x10" cabinet. I'm very intrigued by the Emminence Rajin Cajun, from what I read. Yeah, I know I could consider a Power Brake, but 10"s are usually less offensive to folks and I thought it might sound cool. Plus, I really like 10"s. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys.

What do you have now? As long as you can put some guitar in your monitor, you could mic it and point your cab somewhere else (toward the back or side).

I think it'll sound thin. Get an airbrake. I just got one and it tames the 66 VERY nicely.

I have a lot of experience with 10s. They sound good at home but get thin and lost in all but the quietest band.

Presently, I'm using a 1x12" cab with my 66.
I don't doubt that a single 10" would sound pretty thin, but if you stuck a mic on it, and EQ'ed it well, it could sound great (maybe ?). I'm not envisioning it to sound ideal outside the realm of going through the mains. In a sense, it would act as a personal monitoring system with a mic on it. I guess I was hoping that somebody might have tried it.
Champs, with a single 8" can sound great with a mic on them. I'm exploring all options so I don't get backed into using my Boss GT-8 straight to the board.

If you do go the 10" route then the Ragin Cajun is a smokin speaker - right out of the box. I've never heard such good bottom end in a 10" before...

....sounds to me like your amp is too powerful...i had a Rt 66 a while back and moved it along for just that reason....its not a great low volume amp...imho...the airbarake is probably the way to go if your set on keeping the Rt 66 which is a great sounding amp when the tubes are pumping a bit
