So what version of the Plexi is the Remedy circuit inspired by? What version does it sound most like (from the years 66-69)? I have never had the opportunity to play a real plexi (or even a replica), so I'm just curious..

Dr. Z just commented on this in the Antidote forum. It is based on the 100watt metal panel model, or the 1959 Super Lead. Only it is 4 6V6 tubes instead of 4 EL34's for lower wattage. Hence the name "Remedy" - the cure for bleeding eardrums.

I had a 1971 100 watt Marshall. The 1959 model. Loudest amp I've ever played. Crushing volume.

Here is a pretty informative Marshall article if anyone is interested in checking out: www.legendarytones.com/marshallshoppers1.html

The real plexi amps were part way through 1967 to part way through 1969. I don't know what circuitry the Doc based it off of. The metal panels were supposed to be just a tiny bit brighter. (Urban legend has it it's because people started making 'hotter' pickups...which lacked high end.)
Either way, it's a great amp.

Great article. The term "plexi" is kind of a generic name for the four hole Marshall's. Marshall switched to metal panels, but they are still considered a "plexi".

Oh yeah, late 60's 100 watt Marshalls (of any variety) are probably my favorite amps of all time. I love the Remedy as a lower wattage alternative that achieves lots of the same tones and has a similar feel. The power of the 100 watt stack- it's something to behold!
