Fellas,
I gotta say, the Gold is a superb speaker. I have not gigged it yet, but, here at home I am just finding its everything I want it to be. I am kinda lousy at describing tone in "words", but what I can say is that it's got chime, alnico softness, it's articulate, NOT dark, sparkley and big bottom. It is similar to the blue, but, also much different. Much bigger sounding. Bigger bottom end. Like the blue though, it sound sweet and "pretty".....very bell like. Of my 3 amps, it likes my maz senior the best. I expected that, but the pleasant surprise is how well my z 28 likes it. It's alot of money...........but so far, I like it very much.

I wish you hadn't said that... To me, the ideal cab for the SRZ is an open back 2x12 with two Celestion Golds. That just seems to be the perfect setup for what I want to use it for here... But wow, that's one expensive cab! YIKES!

Hi Guys, My favorite speaker combo in my Maz Sr (2x12 NR) is a Gold paired with a G12H. In fact I use that speaker combo in many setups and it kills. There's something about the two that compliment each other nicely. I should also mention that we're glad you're digging the Golds!

I'm guessing that since it's a "Marshally" type amp, it may be better suited for Greenbacks or V30s or similiar type speakers to get that warmth out of it. I'm only thinking this because my C-Blue is a better sounding spkr thru my Ghias and Mazerati than the G12H30s or V30s. Either way, the Celestions folks should be happy!

I was referring to my MAz Sr 2x12 combo which is of course open back.

How much power would a C-Gold and a G12H30 in a 2x12 handle?

theoretically, 60 watts, twice the power of your weakest speaker.

Thanks tas! I'm gonna wait it out until I figure out what cab will best fit, but 85% of me is telling me a Gold is involved.

Well based on what everyone is saying, and Madison's clip in the sound forum, I've just ordered two Golds. I've got two THD 2x12 cabs here - my plan at the moment is to convert one of those to the Golds. But long term, they might find their way into the Z 2x12 I got with the Stingray. The reason? I still want to do a head-switching scheme, and I would need higher powered speakers than the Blues if I switch between the Stingray and almost anything else I have here. And that cab looks so great with the Z heads I have.

The clip was fantastic. To me, the Gold sounded exactly like the Blue. It would be cool also to hear the comparison when really pushin' and crankin' it.

Okay, the Gold has been out for a while now. And many of you on this site have also had extensive experience with the Weber Alnico Blue Dog. I'd really like for people to weigh in with detailed reviews comparing these two speakers.
We've seen bits and pieces of opinions during recent months, and they are scattered throughout many threads. Could I ask you to jump in here as a central place to weigh in, not only on the Gold but on specific comparisons between these two speakers?
Thanks much!

Could I ask you to jump in here as a central place to weigh in, not only on the Gold but on specific comparisons between these two speakers? Thanks much! Well my Golds just got here today, so I don't have any comparisons, but the problem you entertain with this kind of comparison is that there is one Gold, but a multitude of different speakers all called Blue Dogs. And from what I'm seeing here, they all sound different. I have two ceramic 50 watt blue dogs, and I'm not very fond of them at all. To me, they have no high frequency output. But I've seen guys here rave about them for that exact reason. They sure don't sound anything like the Alnico Blues I have in my Stingray though. In additon to Weber offering both Alnico and Ceramic blue dogs, he offers 20, 30 and 50 watt versions, with several levels of doping or without doping. You're going to get all kinds of a variety of responses that don't make sense when collected together. At least that's been my observation in reading about Blue Dogs over the last year here. The guy raving about his 20 watt alnico Blue Dogs couldn't possibly be hearing the same thing as the guy raving about his 50 watt ceramic Blue Dogs. What you COULD do though is compare like speakers - the Gold is an Alnico speaker at 50 watts. There is a Blue Dog in that configuration - THAT would be a good comparison, and one I'd be interested in too!

I did mean to request comparisons of equivalent speakers - the 50W Alnico Gold and the 50W Alnico Weber Blue Dog. Thanks in advance for any of you who can provide me with some evaluations. DF
