I should get it Monday night. My secret hope is that it's going to blow away my previous amp settings... The invoice lists the following: What's the LPS? I think I horribly under biased the amp as they told me:

I had previously used a Weber Bias Rite and was following the instructions from the famous previous post about getting the amp in the 33mA range. I noticed that as the Amps change on the meter with turning the bias knob, so did the voltage. So each adjustment required a new division calculation based on the equations below.
However, the repair department's quote only told me the delta of the mA. As straight forward as the post sounds, I think I got it terribly wrong. I am thinking I should put in my Weber Bias Rite as soon as I get the amp home so I can check how the voltage looks on the meter as well....but I'll probably just want to play it!
Here's an excerpt from the post:

I _think_ the LPS on the invoice is for a Sovtek 12AX7LPS tube often used as a PI tube. Not positive, but that would make sense.
I am looking forward to hearing how you like it with the fresh bill of health! Crank that baby!

This thread makes me realize how spoiled I am with my other amps that have external test points and a simple knob to adjust bias!

Well it certainly sounds great though I cannot say it sounds vastly different from my memory. Perhaps that is a testament to Dr Z build quality that even when under biased it sounds great. If anything it seems brighter than I remember it which is a great thing in my book. Cranked at Tone 3 Bass noon Volume Max it is just gorgeous classic rock.
I think I'll stop tweaking and just leave tubes alone until I have a problem. If it ain't broke don't fix it is my new motto.

But if they need to be changed for a failure, etc, the external test points and adjustment knod are great. Plus, I don't need a bias meter/probe. However, I guess I'll have to pick one up for the 66 since I don't want to mod the amp. Keith

KeithA I was referring to myself as a tube tweaker, certainly not you. Have a good one.

DC here!
When you use the BiasRite ( I have one too) Turn on the amp let it warm upp for up to 20 minutes or so.
My Route tend to drift quite a bit as the tubes warms upp ( at least 3 to 4 milliamps )
As long as you you stay between 28 to 40 milliamps the amp it self should handle it just fine. ( even if you dont like the sound )
Most people seem like it around 33-34 milliamps. Even matched pairs of tubes have a couple of milliamps difference. ( 2-3 milliamps )
Cheers: Dixiechicken!

DC here! It seems the good Doctor himself agrees with me. Phew what a relief
Seriously though - it's good to get confirmation. My info was actually from a mail conversation with Doc some years ago When he graciously anwered a bunch of questions on this very subject for me. I hope you and Doc have seen my thread in the Lounge area - where I and two friends backed up Rip Masters last weekend. In the musikstore I played my Route with the 2x10" cab (closed back) at full blast with the treble at about eight o clock and bass at about ten o clock. My Warmoth tele on the bridgepickup. My god it sounded good - now I just have to take some guitar lessons Cheers: Dixiechicken!
