I have been having a difficult time trying to get the tone I want out of the wreck without it being too loud. The sweet spot is awesome, but really loud. My first move was to unplug the blue and just run the gold. I think that helped a bit, but it was still too loud for gigging. I have a weber mini mass but the amp sounded too fizzy/muddy with that attenuator. The next thing I tried was a 5R4GB rectifier, but I didn't notice much of a difference. I have been reading about using a lower sensitivity speaker and was getting ready to purchase a creamback(97db) when I noticed a Bruno amp on eBay that had a rocket 50 in a 1x12 cab. It turns out that the rocket 50 is a 95db speaker that is cheap ($55). I figure if it is good enough to be in a Bruno amp that was worth a try. I am pretty impressed, I have the volume set on the edge of breakup and the volume is not too bad. It sounds a little different than the gold, but I don't think it is a bad sounding speaker. Now I just have to run like this for a month or two and make sure I'm not just in the honeymoon phase.

No, I haven't tried an air-brake. There are no places close-by that have a large selection of Z equipment. Do you find the air-brake transparent on the clean tones?

Do you find the air-brake transparent on the clean tones? Yes...but that's not really the point if you ask me. I love the Z Wreck cleans and braked with the AirBrake you can still get cleans, just not as loud and breaks up sooner.

agree: the Wreck isn't a clean amp...using it with an airbrake means to have the sweet spot at lower volumes. still you have very transparent cleans with your volume knob turned down...but you want to hear the thing scream also...that's why you use the airbrake...IMHO

I think there is a misunderstanding. By "clean" I mean "cleanish", the sweet spot where the amp is breaking up a little and very loud. When I use the weber mini mass at that point it adds too much fizz/fuzz/distortion and does not sound good at all. At that sweet spot on the volume, do you guys notice any fizz/fuzz/distortion when you turn on the air brake?

Not sure if anyone in here will agree with me but I have used a THD Hotplate with my Wreck, and having the "Bright" and "Deep" switches to adjust the tone that is altered through attenuation is a lot better sounding, to my ears, than the Airbrake. I have an Airbrake as well but am not using it right now.
Either way, an attenuator is a "must have" with a Z Wreck!

yes an attenuator is a must have with the Wreck. Which one is a matter of personal taste
