Well i've done it again, bought a new "Oval" EZ. I have a CG Head, a ZBest, and an Avatar 1X12. I've been looking for a while for a Z with more clean headroom. I was considering a 38, but I have a couple of 84 based amps, and I'm always missing my 64 Bassman since i foolishly traded it away years ago. I had a Monza 1X10 Combo for a while, but I'm finding i'm a blackface kind of player.
I have some nice pedals for my OD and crunch, Bogner Blue being one of the best. But I crave the thick fat tone of the big 6l6 glass.
The waiting begins.

A twin reverb reissue was my main amp for about 10 years, i was fortunate to work a trade for a EZG 50, i love the tone, it has been pretty much in grained in my head, you will have that big fat 6L6 tone in spades. The anticipation is cool, you know it is on the way. By the way, i did not trade the twin for the EZG, i traded a Swart Head, it didn't have any bottom end with any speaker combination that i have, and i have too many.

I'm primarily an EL84 guy, but my affinity for old Twins makes me yearn for an EZG.

Will the EZG hang over on top of a ZBest in the vertical position? I don't have the exact measurements.

Oddly, that's one of the reasons I've been deterred from getting one (that, and I wouldn't want the reverb tank in the head). i suspect, though, it has always been thought that the Dr Z 410 cab was best suited to the EZG and it would sit atop that one perfectly. thanks keith, i found the dimensions on the Z site. The ZBest is the only cab the EZ doesnt fit on (vert. pos), figures since i have the best. i might move some stuff and pick up either the 2x10, or the 4x10, in red of course

If the 6L6 tone is your thing, then getting the EZG-50 is just a no-brainer, congrats, hope you don't have to wait 4 months for it like I did!
BTW I A/B'd the 2x12 and 4x10, found somehow the 2x12 sounded much more tight, nice bass without the boominess of the 4x10 (also the 4x10 was louder) and smoother, warmer midrange. I guess I'm a "twin" kinda guy...
Also, are all the new EZG's oval fronted? Or are the old ones oval fronted, the boxes arrived today but I didn't open them yet, will have to wait until tomorrow.

The new EZ's are not ovals. I got mine yesterday(3 days from initial order). From the serial number, mine was built in 2011, and was purchased new. Sounds awesome thru my ZBest, but I may end up with a Z 1x12 convertible in the future, for the smaller gig.

It just looks a different because the head is a little wider than the cabinet. I personally kind of dig mismatched cabinets and heads - different colors, etc.
