Just curious if anyone's played through an Alnico silver bell, possibly in their ZBest cab or another cab.
I just picked one up on the forum, mainly due to what I've heard on soundclips throughout the internet, and because it seems to deliver the tone I'm looking for.
I'm just wondering what people think of it, or have thought of it, and what they're using for it.
Mine will be replacing the V30 in my ZBest. I've heard that the Silver Bell matches up well with the G12H30, so we'll see what happens!

I've had one. Great speaker if you don't mind a slightly darker, softer sound. I use the ceramic version now, and dig it better. More punch, clarity, & balls. The alnico's are cool, too, though, and work great for recording. Just make sure you REALLY give it some time to extensively break in before you jugde it completely. Some guys don't like Webers because they aren't satisfied with their "out of the box" sound... like... "What's all the fuss about these Webers? They sound stuffy..." But that's because they are hand built, and Ted makes them very tough and with long, long break-in times. They really loosen up over the long haul, and get really musical when they've taken a beating for a while-

JChance- When you say they REALLY take a long time to break in can you be a little more specific. I just ordered a Anico Blue Dog for a 1X12 and a Ceramic Silver Bell and Blue Dog for a Z-best and I'm curious what kind of time frame your talking about.
Teleking36- I think the Silver Bell will sound great in a Z-Best. I made the same choices based off of sound clips mainly the ones played by Jchance.

RC,
same here. JChance's clips are one of my main reasons for picking this speaker up.
I'm both excited and nervous. I'm getting the speaker in the mail tomorrow, and it'll be my first time swapping a speaker out of a cab. I'm pretty familliar with solder work, but don't have much experience. I just hope I get it right the first time!

Hey, l really hope you like the silver (was bought from me). When mounting the speaker, don't over tighten the bolts (advice I got). Beyond that, you should do find. Let me know how it goes.

Unless I'm doing it wrong, I just pulled the speaker cable connections of of my old speakers and slid them on to the tabs of the new speaker, no soldering involved.

Just curious if anyone's played through an Alnico silver bell, possibly in their ZBest cab or another cab. Mine will be replacing the V30 in my ZBest. I've heard that the Silver Bell matches up well with the G12H30, so we'll see what happens! This is exactly what I've been using in My Z-best for a while now... it's GREAT... swaped the V30 for the silver bell (50 watt Alnico) and kept the g12-h30 in the bottom... works great and sounds better and better every time I play it... If you like the sound of the silver...you will love this combo in the Z-best.... AWESOME!! the break in period for these speakers is kinda like this... you play em hard for a few practices and gigs and they just start loosening up and then they are sounding great BUT they keep loosening up from there so they just get even better sounding.... I am a HUGE WEBER fan now... big thanks to Jayson Chance advise about the different speakers Ted makes and also his sound clips ( helped me decide which ones for me) I was always a ceramic fan and not really an alnico fan.... but NOW I love BOTH the ceramic Blue/silvers AND the alnico Blue/ silvers have really grown on me... Jason BTW, gregs right about the solder thing and most ( all of docs) are just clips... But I had ONE cab that the speakerclips were soldered onto the speakers connectors and had to remove the solder then went ahead and put new clips on the wires so I could just change the speakers out whenever I wanted to... was EASY and works fine... and is good advise to NOT tighten the screws to tight...
