I got a Z 1X12 cab a few weeks ago to use as an alternative to my ZBest ( GB's) with my Rt.66. It came w/ G12-H30 speaker. Cab has maybe 6-8 hrs. playing time on it now. When is the speaker considered " broken in" ? I played the Z 2X10 and the Z 1X12 in the store ( TrueTone Music, Santa Monica ) with my 66 before making a decision to get the 1X12. It sounded better to me than the 2X10- bigger, more bottom, etc. But compared to the ZBest it's a bit more trebly/harsh. Is this a trait of the speaker, cab or both? Should I wait to get it broken more in before trying other speakers? I know the Zbest and the Z 1X12 ( it's a slotted rear open back cab ) are two different animals. Another desire is that I'm looking for reduced volume from the 1X12 as most situations that require the 1X12 are smaller gigs where volume is an issue. I'm well aware that the 66 is a loud amp. What works for me though is to keep vol. on amp at 9 o'clock or below and get dirt from my pedals. I need clean tones as well so this set up works pretty good. I've ordered a Z Airbrake to throw into the equation. I'd like to know what you have come to use as your Fave speaker in the Z 1X12 when paired w/ the Rt. 66. BTW I really like the sound I get w/ the ZBest and Greenbacks. I'd like to duplicate this sound in the 1X12 cab but with less volume. I have heard however that a GB in an open back cab sounds way different and not nearly as good as in a closed back cab. Can you help me out? thx, t
