Set up a wild little rig in my gear closet yesterday afternoon. The Ghia was miked up from three different angles and I tried to get the tones down as you'd hear them in that tiny space. The setup was CG-cable-LPJr into the mics from the RF. There's a bit of meat in a mid type way to my ears but the growl fits it well. Fun time while the wife was out and the kids playing with their friends. soundcloud.com/x24guitarman/keepontruckin

What mics, and what angles? I'm just starting to get into home recording, and am curious how to get nice tones. It seems like what I hear in the room vs. what I hear on tape aren't that close. Tat recording sounded pretty nice!

Thanks for the kind words man. Glad you liked the sounds. I used two dynamic and one condenser mic for the sounds. I tried to capture their location with my phone. The pic is below. I put the SM57 at a 45 degree angle to the speaker. The copy 609 faced the front of the cone about six inches out to catch the attack of the speaker. The condenser was on top of a guitar case and aimed down to catch the ambient room noise. You can see it on the upper left of the first picture. To my ears the key was letting the mics capture the sound and not color it too much by having them too hot in the mix. I hope that makes sense. I used a Fostex MR8HD to do the tracks live and get all three mic signals to "digital tape" at once. Have fun and experiment. That's the best way to find what you like.
