Hi All: I believe I am ready to pull the trigger on the Wreck, however, I have a concern that I hope you can provide guidance. I plan to limit my overdrive pedals and rely on an aracom attenuator to drive the wreck. My concern is that without an effects loop what impact will this have on my use of delay and modulation in front of the wreck. Will it muddy up the delay and modulation effects? How have you all addressed this? It appears many of you are using attenuators for the Wreck. Thanks!

^^^ The words "muddy" and Z Wreck do not go together. I've had no ill affects using my Air Brake and effects with the Z Wreck. But, to tell you the truth, I've found the Z Wreck has made me lay off the effects. It's so fun just straight in. But when I do use my pedal board, I generally don't use the attenuator. I can get a great clean, base tone with no attenuation and add flavor & effects with the pedals. Good luck~

I agree with MarkT and that you will use less effects with the Wreck because it just sounds so good by itself. I have run it with an Airbrake and an EP boost and had a bunch of tones just in there. If I use delay or reverb into a cranked Z Wreck, you have to really watch your levels on the pedal or else it will be way too much. I use effects just to give my tone a little something and not take away from the tone itself. It is real easy to overdo it with effects.
I find it is easier to just use a Timmy pedal when I play the amp with my band. The Timmy is transparent enough that it sounds pretty close to a cranked Wreck and by the time my tone blends with the band, no one can tell.

That is good advice guys and thanks for giving me confidence. I have a strymon timeline for multiple delays, does anyone know how it works on the front end of a cranked wreck?

Not sure about the Strymon but I use the Wampler and it sounds really good. Just like cooking, use effects as a "spice" and don't make it the main dish. Let the amp be your base tone and add delay or reverb as needed.

I suggest you play the Wreck without any effects for a while. I would use the attenuator. I feel the amp has different zones in terms of the relative amount of overdrive introduced as the volume control is increased. Of course, the more overdriven sounds are high up on V and it is very loud at that point. Working the amp straight in will, I think, be helpful to you to figure out what sounds the Wreck produces on its own before introducing effects. There's always a chance that an effect will muck up the sound, and you wouldn't want to think it's the amp

My z wreck said "I'm too sexy for your pedals!" Haha It's been a while since I've played a wreck because I sold my first. I must have had a momentary lapse of idiotism. ( I've got another one coming to me tomorrow. Yippee!) anyway, I remember mine taking pedals kinda funny. Like bryan0418 was saying, the more you crank the more sensitive the amp takes pedals. If you turn up, your gonna have to dial your pedals back. I run delays and everything in the front of my MAZ 18.. It soaks the delays ODs and mod fx up no matter what volume. The one thing I never tried with the wreck is a really transperant clean boost just to push the front end. I bet you get into some magic there!

You all are great and offered excellent suggestions. I am happy to report that I am joining the ZWreck family! Ordered my matching head and cab - silver of course - from Humbucker Music today! It will arrive on Thursday!! doctorice I will definately use the Aracom - will be great to explore all of the Z tones! jmoore83 clean boost will probably be the first effect I add after a while - probably my Wampler modified BD2 or Timmy set as a clean boost - can't wait! Thank you all again for being such a supportive community.

A Timmy with the Wreck is sweet. That's the only "effects" pedal left on my board.

have had my new wreck for a week now and played a lot. I tried OD-pedals and the airbrake. Both ways are great. The airbrake is a bit more dynamic...at least as far as I can judge...

have to agree with you muZician, the natural overdrive of this amp, to my ears, is the best. Even attenuated. 2nd best to me is some slight hair and hit with an overdrive pedal, my favorite is the Wampler Paisley........the one sound I can't stand is pure clean with overdrive.

agree with you j5, pure clean with OD is last choice (even if good enough...). my fav OD pedal is an old fulltone fulldrive (the one without mosfets). I'll try the Wamper Paisley, it seems to have a great number of fans here in the forum

I bought an Airbrake Lite SA when I got my Wreck. I used the Airbrake a couple of times and haven't used it since. As it turned out, the Wreck is perfect for my gigging situation just as it is and I don't need to attenuate it. I've also reduced my pedal board to a Pitchblack tuner, Timmy, and a Fatboost (just for solo boost) since getting the Wreck.

Lucky you! For my gigging unfortunately the Wreck is too loud :-( Hate pedal boards, never had one, just a Keeley Compressor and a Fulltone Fulldrive (use it very rarely). So The Airbrake is a must...
