I live near Atlanta and I was thinking about taking my Ghia to him to tighten it up. It's got some rattle and I can't pinpoint it. Any personal experiences?

No experience with them but have you checked the usual suspects?
Tubes? Chassis/cab screws? Speaker/cab?

I've only heard great things about Jeff Bakos. He's been at it for years.

Dan Baird & Warner Hodges drive from Nashville to take their amps to Jeff.

If he's backed up don't hesitate to use Jeff Andrews at Andrews Amp Labs. Good guy and fairly quick.

Lefty, I may pull the chassis later and check it out.
fasteddie, thanks for reminding me about Andrews Amp Lab.
Thanks for the other replies as well. There was a local tech near me that I was impressed with, but he moved to the other side of the country. I've heard great things about Bakos and Jeff Andrews.

I've used Jeff twice for tweaks and repairs. Really nice guy and reasonable prices, but for my Z amps, I would only use Doc Z.....

Steve Hunter here in Athens Ga. is a good man for tube amps. If it has tubes he can work on it and it will be right.

If it's Ghia and it's rattling there's two major things that jump out at me: the power tubes and rectifier. EL84's are absolutely notorious for rattling and I've had a couple of NOS 5Y3's start rattling. It could also be a preamp tube but I'd definitely replace the power and rectifier tubes with known good replacements and see if the rattling goes away.

Also, Z's can be repaired by other techs. Doc is accessible to them and his circuitry is not "secret" and all hidden and gunked up covered with silicone like Bruno and some others.

In almost every rattle case I've had, even with my Z28, I narrowed it down to glass.

Sometimes the wire retainers will do it too.

If this is a combo, it is most certainly the tubes that rattle. As mentioned above, tube dampers on all tubes help. I've had to use as many as two dampers per tube in small combo amps. El84's seem to be the most prone to rattles, but I've had it occur with 6V6's, also, and that was in a small head.
