Just bought a used remedy from GC and it should be here next week. Any advice for a newbie would be appreciated. I live in an apartment so volume control is a top priority.

Get a Brakelite SA!

The Brakelite doesn't have the 'bedroom' setting. Perhaps you'll need the regular "Airbrake".
The brakelite is the same thing as the airbrake...without the 'bedroom' setting. And the bedroom setting is pretty darn helpful in an apartment.

I appreciate the input and I've been eying the airbrake with intent since I started looking at these amps. I do have a question about the 1x12 cabs, is there any thing about the z cabs that makes them really stand out from other cabs (with the exception of the zbest)?

as a relatively new Remedy player, I would definitely get an Airbrake rather than a Brakelite for apartment use, especially if you want to run the Vs past noon. If your happy with clean sounds, then the Rem sounds great with the Vs back around 9 o'clock and a BL on 4 clicks (it's the only amp I've played which can handle the BL on 4 clicks without sounding dead), but this is a loud amp and is designed as a great stage amp. I play a 1x12 Z cab with a G12-65 and I have no idea if it's better or worse than any other cab, but it sure LOOKS better!

And yeah--the Z cabs are nice because they're really well made (even nice on the inside!), they're convertible, they're not too big to move easily but not so small that they sound boxy, they have a nice, full, resonant sound, and of course they're a great visual match with your Z amp(s). That said, they ain't cheap.

I haven't been able to try my Remedy with a Z-best, but it did sound great thru my 1-12 Mesa closed back cab with their custom 90w Celestion. I'd like to find a used Z-best, but they are few and far between. Pete's settings are almost the same as what I used the other night on a (mostly) Country gig. LOUD and clean on full power....even w humbuckers. Welcome to the forum.....I've been on about a month. Good tips in here.

Yep, those are the settings I used for the 50s Rock and Roll Tribute gig with my Strat - plenty of warm spank and shimmer from the Strat that night! WIth a touch of 'verb, and delay as needed, I was totally delighted with the tone, as was the audience. Now when I'm playing with my rock band, well, the settings change somewhat

I went ahead and ordered a 1x12 cab from Dave at Avatar, I got the open back with the conversion board. I was committed to jumping on the creamback wagon so I just wanted an empty cab and have heard some pretty good things about his cabs and his prices are almost impossible to beat. By the way does anyone know where all the Airbrakes went??? I haven't been able to find a single one in stock with the exception of one on ebay.

Avatar have a good reputation up here and many of the guys use them, so you'll be good with that choice. Can't answer the Airbrake question though........... you could use 2x BLs in series. That works just as well, and has been endorsed by the Doc. I've done ir for a couple of years now. For bedroom levels on a loud amp, it's fine.

Avatar stuff is decent. I have an Avatar 1x12 and it's been very useful--it generally lives in our practice space, and sometimes goes along on smaller gigs. Very handy little cab--sounds good, too.

^^^ A bit smaller and lighter than the Z 1x12; construction decent but not quite in the same class as the Z. Still, very serviceable and the price is obviously pretty good. A big advantage of the Avatar is that you can buy them unloaded.

I use an Avatar 1x12 cab with my Remedy and it's wonderful. I had a ZBest but it was just too heavy to gig with and way too loud with the stock speaker configuration. I also favor open-back cabs, so I didn't really need the ZBest at all. My 1x12 open back and 2x12 open back will get me through any gig situation. I think the Creamback is an excellent choice, however, the G12-65 might be even better since it's 96db. Having a speaker that quiet makes a HUGE difference at home.

Home from deployment, everything should arrive tomorrow. Found out the air brakes are still being made due to a powder coating issue but, they should be available again next week.
