I've got a Maz 18 combo, and I like it quite a bit. I'm looking to go the head/ Z best route, for a new rock project. I'm thinking the 38 is the ticket, but I don't know if I want the NR version or not. Any LP players using a 38, of either variety?

The NR version will have a bit more gain. If you need the on board reverb then get the reverb version or use outboard effects.

38 NR. If you need reverb you can always pick up Z-verb for the price of a high line pedal ( I picked mine up sed for $400).
If this is a rock project you might want to listen to Remedy or SRZ 65 before settling on the 38.

I'm favoring the maz because I know I can get a nice clean sound out of it. And the 18w is a big plus, too.

Love my LP through the 38 just as much as my strats and teles...It just sings 100% It's equally as amazing w/my LP... 100% agree as well, strat, Tele and LP all sing with my Maz 38 and I have the one with reverb. Has a good amount of gain with the LP. If I need a bit more I use my xotic effects booster to push the amp
