I had a power tube go out on me Saturday and I replaced the quartet with an older set (with low hours). As I was playing for a while I started to notice a weird harmony. The amp was generating some sort of lower frequency sub-harmonic ghost note (not sure what the technical term for this phenomenon is called).
Does anyone know why this would occur and how to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A filter cap might cause this. I've had some come loose or unsoldered before. You could pull the amp out of the chassis and see if the filter caps look like they are ok. If you are confident enough you can turn the amp on while out of the chassis and lightly nudge the filter caps with a chopstick while you (or a friend is playing through the amp. Buster
