I'm new to the forum but I've owned my Maz18 2-10 for 8 or so years. When I purchased it, I kept looking at the Rt66, but went for versatility and perceived volume control. I'm not unhappy just still GAS-ing for a 66. Then along comes the Remedy. Thought I'd like the plexi-sound.
Found a deal on a Z-Best cabinet and bought it. So I went to a local shop an A/B'd the Rt66 and the Remedy through a Z-Best with my G&L Legacy. Both were amazing.
I have to say, I'm still undecided. My initial thoughts are the Remedy sounds closer to the Maz, albeit with more headroom, than does the 66. The 66 just seemed to keep calling me. The 66 had a certain note clarity, richness, fullness and depth that always seemed to be there. The Remedy was rich just not as rich.
The breakup on the Remedy was nice. Never could get close to that with the Rt66. But sustain and character on the 66 was charming and romantic.
I'll probably have to go back and test drive with my PRS and Les Paul, both of which sit very idle. For some reason I prefer the single coils in the MAZ18. Maybe using the humbuckers will help me decide. Something tells me a good O/D pedal and the Rt66 might give me all the plexi mojo I need and a ton of other tone I might miss with the Remedy.
Anyone wish to share similar experiences or thoughts. I wish I could do as the guy behind the counter said, "We can ring them both up." Alas I'm a teacher and can barely justify buying one.

I agree with the single coils into my Maz. But both sound fantastic into my 66... Really like P90's into the Rt66 also.

That would be fun ringing them both up. I think (and I must disclose my bias - see my signature line) that you would get more flexibility with the Route 66 plus a pedal or two. I think that the front end of the 66, because of the EF-86 tube, will give you a better pedal experience. Gotta love the overdrive of the Route 66 too.

For me & what I like, the Maz18 & Route 66 work better with my dirt pedals than the Remedy. I guess the Remedy is aggressive enough on its own. So probably depends on your style of playing as to which would better suit you. I think they're all nice amps. One thing i notice is I hear a lot of other rigs (live) most of which seem dull in comparison. :-)

I think that is where Z shines - live performance. I have consistently found that Z Amps always sit in the mix much better - they are more forward without being too loud.

Live performances is where it's at. I've also had fun recording with the Maz 18. I think the 66 is where I'm leaning. It's tone is rich.

If I had to live with one sound the rest of my life, it would be with my Route 66, Z Best cab, and my LP Jr.

I have to say, I'm still undecided. Made a decision. I figured that as I had been gas-n for a RT66 all these years I better relieve the pain. So with the help of a great deal from Albert here on the forum, we met in Chicago and I came home with a Rt66. One week into ownership, boy oh boy I am sure glad I did this. What a great sound. Heavenly with my G&L legacy on open string chord voicings. What a palette of tonal options, sustain for days, and I could go on. I've barely yet ventured above 12 o'clock of the volume, but my dabbling in that zone have hinted at what is capable. Nor have I put a pedal in front of it yet. I'm just diggin the guitar straight in and twistin the tone controls on guitar and amp. I'm a teacher so you know where I'll be spending my time over winter break. This is definitely the desert island amp.

Neither choice was a bad one, but I'm in the 66 camp. and, you made a deal with a really good guy. I picked up my z28 from Albert. Not sure what he has left ; )

The 66 has more power than I need, which makes me think of replacing it with a lower wattage amp like the Maz 8 or M12. I just can't give up that dimensional tone and sustain that it has. What surprises me most is how good it does sound at lower volumes. I use an Airbrake set to 4 and it sounds great. Don't think I will ever part with it.

I got Albert's Remedy a couple months ago. He now has my KT-45. And I think an M-12.

I'm totally enjoying playing around 9-10 o'clock on the volume, twistin and turnin the tone controls on guitar and amp. Every time I think, tonight's going to be the night I throw a pedal in front of it an hour or two has gone by with me playing straight in. It's an addictive amp.

I got Albert's Remedy a couple months ago. He now has my KT-45. And I think an M-12. When I first talked with him on the forum he had the Remedy. When we met to exchange several weeks later he told me he got rid of the Remedy for the KT-45. Then he told me to listen to the M-12. He referred to it as a baby Z-wreck. Haven't played either so I can't say. If there's another on my horizon out there, it's probably a Carmen Ghia.

Right now the M12 is my go to amp I can use it as a head/cab or a 1x10 format the KT45 is gonna be the alley cat for outdoor stuff in the summer ... I am glad to have done deals with all of you ...local deals are the best IMHO cause you get to personally meet and talk ... If anyone considers selling give me first dibs... ;D
