(Ok so this is basically an extension of my other thread.) I think I need to try some other OD pedals for a higher gained classic rock type overdrive(/distortion?) used with a Hamer Studio Custom (Les Paul double-cutaway) w/ Seymour Duncan '59 humbuckers. I need it to remain open/not compressed, huge sounding but not unnaturally big, a good amount of midrange and color. And a bass control or something similar would be nice.
What overdrive/distortion pedal will do this and work very well with my new M12? Again think open chords and power chords for heavier classic rock tones, he's only overdriven without much compression.

I really like the Xotic A/C Booster with my M12.....also their BB (Bluesbreaker) Preamp is killer with the M12 as well.....The A/C just seems to cut thru better in a live band situation....
Plus, I'd like to publicly apologize for my insensitive and arrogant comment about buying your M12 off the BST and re-tubing it or sending it to Z. I too mis-interpreted your "100%" comment in the BST and the disappearance of the OP. Anyway, my words were snooty,"uncalled for," and self-serving, and I know better.... Anyway, I am truly sorry....

I have always found the Xotic AC a little on the compressed side but have a couple buddies who have one (among others) on their boards and sound great with them. I like the BB much better for classic crunchy rhythm tones and currently use one for that purpose. Another great pedal for this stuff is the version 2 OCD. Not too sure about the latest version 4 though. Haven't tried one.

Hey man - thanks for the apology. I really appreciate it Everything's all good! And thanks for your input on the AC. I'm planning on buying a few OD/distortion pedals to test out and see which ones work best.

I recently picked up a Rockbox Boiling Point, and it delivers a very nice array of boost/OD tones. Pricey box, but I got a sweet deal from a fellow Z Talker -- thanks, Nick!
One aspect I like, and this is also true for the Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive, is the toggle switch to move from boost to a couple different flavors of OD. This can free up some space on the pedalboard.

From a price performer perspective, the MXR '78 Distortion might work good.
Check out some vids....

Just picked up a Rockett Animal pedal and absolutely love it with both singles and humbuckers through my M12. Take a listen...

I like the xotic BB MB pretty good. It's the mid boost version so with it I have control over highs, mids, and lows. It can also get close to the regular BB sound. Although it may have a little more compression than you would like, I really like the Paisley drive with the m12. It's one of my favs at the moment - with any of my amps.
