I changed out the speakers in my Ray yesterday. There was a ringing when playing the amp and I think there is a microphonic tube in V1. Not sure, as I have never, to my knowledge, had this problem before.
I switched it out to another tube and the same problem. It wasn't a know "good" tube, but it was new in box. V1 and V2 if you tap on them with a pick while the amp is on, they both ring...the ringing from V1 is more pronounced than V2...is this normal?
Thanks for any input.

The EF86 tubes on the market today are not built well, you need to look for Dr Z's suggested replacement EF86 tube choice or email Z-headquarters for advice. Or go NOS EF86's
You could use high temp silicone orings on all the tubes to combat the ringing especially if this is a combo amp.

El84 amps have that "jingle bells" issue.....if that's what you're hearing. the prev recommendation is pretty much your best solution...the high temp silicon. 1" inch for the EL84's. It works pretty good....and at higher gain, you can't her it any more. If your hearing a very pronounced ear piercing ring out of your cab.....you got a Bad tube that needs replacing.. Been there, done that. If you can afford it, go with a N.O.S. tube from High Test, etc..... Your tone quest will just be enlightened.
