Mine is used with an attenuator most of the time, even for cleans. It is a LOUD amp!
If you play at home or do small gigs I think you have decent clean headroom, expecially if you roll back guitar's volume to 5-6. But for cleans I use other amps, this one is my go-to crunch/od sound with a Tele.

I just dropped in to read this thread because I'm researching the Ghia. Thinking of picking one up you know. Anyway, all of this info is good, no matter how old it is. Thanks all. Me too, just reading this thread for the first time as I'm thinking of trying some different tubes with my Ghia. I don't care how old the thread is, it's all useful and interesting stuff. |

Also reading this old thread.
I use my Ghia with the 10" Red Fang and sometimes with a 12" EMI Lil' Texas.
When you run this amp with highly efficient speakers I find it hard to run out of headroom on a gig setting with almost any band I play with
but those are gig situations not theoreticals.

Roscoe is exactly right. I'm running factory tube specs and a 101dB 12" alnico blue clone in my Ghia, and I have more than enough headroom for any gig I will ever play. A basement rehearsal with a loud drummer is a different story, but in that case, it is an indication your drummer is too loud! Ride your guitar's volume control and have fun! |

I needed to retube my CG head so I took the chance and ordered some JJ tubes. I'd benefit from more clean headroom so I odered:
- A matched pair of EL84 power tubes. I asked for the coolest available;
- A balanced 5751 preamp tube;
- An ECC83S preamp tube;
- A 5Y3S rectifier.

You want headroom? Go dual 5751s w/ a Blue. I ran it for years. Few things come close
