This past weekend I left the Wreck at home and took my other tube amp to the gig. I figured it was time to share the love and give the old rig a night on the town. The older amp is a well known two channel amp and a real workhorse and I've played many a gig on it but have been using the Wreck since last fall. It didn't take long...half way through set one I realized that what I was missing was the tonal character of the Wreck. And, since getting the Wreck about a year ago, I have been reducing number the pedals on my board to where I now just have a tuner, an overdrive, compressor, and boost. Next gig I am seriously thinking of leaving the pedal board at home and just using a clip on tuner, Tele, and the Wreck and boosting for solos with the guitar vol knob. The simplicity of that set up just seems like a natural course to follow. I couldn't do that with my other amp. But with the Wreck...yes.

;D Great report!! I miss my Wreck already and it's not even gone yet!..lol
I've noticed the same thing since I discovered Z amps in general. My pedalboard/s shrinking.
Love it! Love 'em! Lovin' it!
Enjoy~

This is how I play all the time, at home, in the studio (one and the same) or at a gig and I never feel lacking in versatility! Tele, clip on tuner, Wreck. Oh, OK I sometimes slip a Tremulator pedal in there. Twist that old volume knob and adjust the Air Brake and you got everythang you ever need. Super simple. Super toney. jj

Gig Update: It went great! Not only was it a welcomed simplification of my load in/out, set up, etc but I also reconnected with my guitar and amp's natural tones. It was sweet.

Sounds like a winning combination. Having owned a Wreck for awhile, if I were playing some place where I could open it up without the club owner having a conniption, I can't imagine needing pedals... okay, maybe a little echo... but nothing else. I mean, what's the point of having a $4,000 guitar and $3,700 amp if your going to run it through a $100 pedal. If you have a great guitar and a great amp, you don't need anything else... except maybe a little echo.

Also used a new IEM system from Rockon Audio Sat night. Cannot say enough good stuff about this unit. No need for wedges or heavy amp racks ever again. Took the mix straight from the board. Sound quality in the ears was fantastic.

Interesting post, One thing I noticed about a lot of the Z line is how they shine plugged straight in...at first (being a Fender guy) I thought I could never live without reverb, but that ended, and especially with the Wreck....it really likes to be all natural ! Z's amps are very unique, and have always had their own thing going on.
