You really only need the Sr if the Maz 18 does not have enough ooooomph for the gigs you play.... I have owned both, currently own the 38, they are both great....The 38 has much more headroom, and the 18 gets crunchy at lower volumes....There's certainly tho, no law against owning them both.... PS: welcome to the forum, Bro!

It's a footswitchable feature that completely bypasses the tone stack (EQ controls: Bass, mids, and treble). In doing so, you get a louder, "gainier" sound that many use as a boost for a lead/solo, but many others enjoy as just a different sound the amp can deliver. Older amps Both 18's and 38's can be retro-fit-modded by Doc Z at the Ohio shop. I may be incorrect, but I think it costs less than $200.00. The new amps (18's and 38's) come new from the factory with the bypass as a standard factory feature.

Welcome.
Following up on Lee's (maddog) comments: many of us use the MAZ 18 for gigs and have to attenuate the output. It's a loud amp. If you are playing out and do need even more headroom, the 38 is the ticket.
EQ bypass mod retrofit is $150. If your 18 is the current version it will have the detachable (IEC standard) AC power cord and already have an effects loop and the bypass.
