I've had my new Maz38 for a few weeks now. Not real happy with the bass response. I am used to my Fender Blues Deluxe when you turn up the bass controll you get low end. My Maz is the 112 combo. Will adding a 112 cab. help the low end?

I had a Maz 38 briefly, and let it go for the same reason. Any cab I ran it through lacked the bottom I need. Everyone I talked to said the 38 should have plenty of bottom. My Maz 18 has plenty. Go figure. I had a RXES that had TONS of bottom. The Z Wreck and Remedy have enough to satisfy. I guess enough is different for different folks.

I have a Maz 38 NR which I run through a Z-Best 2x12 and it has more low end than I could ever need (and I like a hefty bottom end on my tone). In fact, it has so much low end that I actually have to dial it down a touch or it becomes overwhelming. Sounds like it might be a cabinet issue and not a head issue.

Thanks for the input. My amp is the 112 combo. The tone is great. I wanted the Paisley sound and it has it but I also enjoy being able to dial a little bass in on some songs.

Where are you placing the cab in relation to the floor and adjacent walls?
What speaker is it? Is the speaker new?

Thanks. The Maz 38 112 combo is two months old with stock speaker. Usually set it on top of the flight case. Mic it with an sm57. Vol 11:00, treb. 10:00, mid1:00, bass 3-5:00, cut 11:00, master 1:00, brake lite #2.

I've found more bass happens when the cab's on the floor and after the speaker loosens up from break-in.

Is the stock speaker still the G12H30?
I don't know the Blues Deluxe very well but I bet either the circuit or the speaker or both are designed to put out the big Fender low end. The Maz bass response is a lot tighter. It's not as blooming as, say, a Super Reverb or tweed Bassman or some such.
Try something higher powered like one of the Eminence offerings: Tonker, Wizard, Swamp Thang, Texas Heat. I think the Governor (or is it the Wizard?) is similar to the G12H but with more power.
I've got some Legend V12s that put out lots of low end but you might want to go with something less rock n roll sounding (the Legends are sort of V30ish but smoother and with more bass).
Like Matt, I find myself lowering the bass on my Maz 38 reverb head, but I have it going through a Z Best, Dr. z 4x10, or Earcandy Buzzbomb (with the Emi Legends).
Don't give up yet. The Maz is a really cool amp.

I like what adding a Celestion Gold did to the bottom end of my maz38. Also - adding a Wampler Ecstasy helped me keep my tone mostly the same but able to add awesome bottom end.

The more you are able to turn the volume up the more bass you'll get, too. I also rarely ran the cut above 9:00. Usually between 8:30-9:00. A lot depended on the room , too. A speaker switch is probably one of the most effective ways to modify the tone of your amp.
+1 for keeping the cab on the floor. Gives more bass response that way.

The above comments are all spot on, and definitely put the cab on the floor. In addition, isn't the Blues Deluxe powered by 6L6's? They will always give more bottom end than EL84's. However, I agree that a Celestion Gold will give more bass, (though not as tight), and I never turn my bass knob above 9 o' clock for that reason. It's an expensive fix though, so try experimenting with the EQ. If you keep the middle, treble and cut knobs up above half way there will be less apparent bass. Try turning them down. The controls are all interactive, so it might be worth experimenting to see exactly what each one does, if you haven't already.

When I ran a Maz38 head through a Zbest it thumped the bass in spades. I also owned a Maz38 combo that I feel did not dissapoint in the bass department. I once brought a Maz38 combo with a Zbest cab to a gig. I layed the zbest horizontally and placed the combo on top. with the zbest cab plugged in to the combo and all 4 speakers going it was heaven. The biggest problem I had with the zbest is there really wasn't any gigs I could take it to. The long throw of the cabinet made it too loud for anywhere I played.

Thanks for all the info. Amp & stock speaker are breaking in very well. However I had a tube go bad today at practice. Bad sounds coming out. So I'm looking at a set of groove tubes. I need them quick and a local dealer has them in stock. Hope they work ok.
