I CAN'T believe they've REMADE "Total Recall", which started life as a Philip K **** story called "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale". The first "TR" was dreadful compared to ****'s original tale...

if only Hollywood could figure out how to wipe your memory so you wouldn't remember that the film you just saw was a remake.

There have been some good ones, even if they're not entirely faithful to the source. I always liked the original War of the Worlds, for example. Ditto for Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

The best SF movies I've ever seen have been small productions... the original "La Jettee" (which became "12 Monkeys") and "Pi" were both good. "Primer" might be the best SF film ever made. No compromises to the audience, gritty and realistic.
The 1980 "Lathe of Heaven" was pretty faithful to LeGuin's novel. Probably the closest adaptation I've ever seen. And "A Scanner, Darkly" (ANOTHER PKD novel) was decent...

+50. Low budget, but they cut no corners and didn't make the usual mistakes. A movie that really makes you think, and hard.
