I am having weird crackling/static when I hit the E on the twelfth fret on the low E string and the E and sometimes D on the A string. It seems to respond to how hard I hit the string. If I play soflty enough it does not appear but if I play at a normal level and especially if I play harder it appears. I am not sure if any other pitches cause that crackling but definitely the ones I mentioned. It does not seem to appear with an open low E only with the octave. At first I though it was my strat because my tone knob seemed a little scratchy but then I noticed that it was appearing based on how hard I played. I just got this amp yesterday and I am in love with it. Head into Zbest cabinet. This worries me a bit, but I think it must be a tube issue? Any advice would be helpful. Also what tubes would you recommend to bring out the most tonally from the amp? Thanks a lot.

Swap out V1 first and hope this fixes it, with a new 12AX7 of some type.
If this does not fix it, it is probably V2 (actually this is probably the issue but let's hope for V1) as you will need a new EF86 here.
While you are swapping V1, if this does not fix things, try the new 12AX7 in V3 also. I do see phase inverter issues when they are noisy.

Thanks Myles! I will try that and get back to you as soon as I can. Also what would you reccomend as far as NOS tubes are concerned to draw the most tone from the amp? I would want to replace all the tubes. Thanks again!

Thanks Myles! I will try that and get back to you as soon as I can. Also what would you reccomend as far as NOS tubes are concerned to draw the most tone from the amp? I would want to replace all the tubes. Thanks again! What I use and like is .... V1 - 12AX7M in the 125 + range in my number scale V2 - Good NOS EF86 such as the Dario Miniwatt. If you have the money ... Mike at www.kcanostubes.com has some great EF86's: kcanostubes.com/content/estore_details.asp?product=324 These are even more articulate than the Dario. kcanostubes.com/content/estore_details.asp?product=141 is an amazing tube at a stupid low price ... I do not know how many of these he has but this tube is every bit the tube the GEC is and Mullard is the one that invented this tube! I think Mike may have messed up on the pricing on this tube or found a truckload of them somewhere and dropped the price. This is easily a $90 tube. V3 - SAG-AX7-MPI which is currently made from the long plate M's. Output tubes - EL84S #6.
