Looking for recommendations for the best reverb unit to wet things up a little on my Dr.Z Maj 38 head. Preferably a pedal but I'm open to affordable suggestions. Heard some good things said about the Nuenaber WET pedal but would really like to hear about others experiences with various other units particularly when coupled with a Dr.Z. Looking for a basic tradiyional sounding reverb but as sweet as possible. Tried the Boss RV5 digital reverb pedal a little while back. Yuk FX loop vs in front of the amp? I am posting this in the lounge area also to get the best exposure. Apologies for the duplication. Thanks

I am not a reverb purist, but I DO like just a pinch in the background most of the time.....For my slender needs, I use a $150 Hall of Fame with my Maz 38 NR....It's believe-able enough for me.... If you really dig reverb and want to really get into the nuances of it, check out the Strymon "Blue Sky" or "Flint."

If by traditional you mean spring, I would recommend Wampler Faux Reverb. In front of the amp it is hard to dial down the mix and depth enough to call it "just a splash/pinch of verb", in a loop that is easier. I like WET v3 in front of the amp. You can really tame it. When cranked up it is not traditional. I has some interesting modulation/ambience which is cool but by no means traditional.

Thanks guys, I will bear your suggestions in mind. Some time ago I seem to remember some forum members discussing a particular reasonably priced unit that many found very effective but can't seem to find those posts anywhere. I was hoping one of the members from that discussion would have chimed in?
Thanks again

I started with a Holy Grail, got bored and got a Hall of Fame. HOF sounded a bit sterile so I got a Wampler. The Wampler sounded very much like a Fender or Z stand alone reverb but was a bit too strong and touchy. So I went full circle and put the Holy Grail back on my board and lived happily ever after.
Please keep in mind I am only going for a traditional spring reverb like found in an amp. Run in front of the amp and not through a loop.
Also the Holy Grail runs parallel with your analog signal and blends the verb with your original signal so everthing is not all digital. I think the other 2 I mentioned do as well.
I like the HG because it's simple, easy to get a good sound, and it's very inexpensive.
good luck with your search rp

As mentioned above, it depends on what you mean by standard verb sounds. I have a Boss RV-5 that I'm happy with, but I'm not a 'verb guy to begin with and use it sparingly. I would admit that the Spring reverb on the RV-5 is the worst mode. The other modes sound pretty good to my ears, but I always keep the mix between 9:00-12:00.
I used to use a Digitech RV-7, and that pedal has GREAT sounds! The only reason I ditched it was to get a better modulate mode. The RV5 is great for that, and I need it for ambient swelling sounds once in a while. If I was looking for straight up 'verb, then I'd go back to that one (Digitech RV7). They can be had for around 80-100 used.

Thanks fevzay. My need is more for a subtle spring type reverb. My problem is that I have found the "spring reverb" setting on most pedals I have tried don't really cut it to my ears. The Wampler seems like it might be the best bet but I am a little concerned that it might not be able to tone down sufficiently. I have an old Musicman amp which has a really sweet reverb; if I could get close to that I would be well pleased!
I agree the more spacey ambient sounds on the RV5 are a lot more usable and the modulation effect in particular is really nice.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it is much appreciated.

I keep the Wet Reverb on all the time,it's a natural sounding reverb, also the new TC Electronics Hall Of Fame reverb is great, very versatile.

For low bucks and simplicity I recommend the Holy Grail Nano.
Set it on Spring, run it straight in the front and keep it under 1:00 or so.
It's all I've ever needed.
