My new strat came with a gig bag, but I'll probably end up getting a case for it. Should I just stick with one of the Fender cases, or are there better deals out there?

I'd go for a Fender case - you got a nice guitar new or used? save some cash and buy a used one. just my .02

I'd stick with the gig bag...or maybe a sturdier gig bag.

I'd stick with the gig bag...or maybe a sturdier gig bag. I don't know - the first thing I do when a gig is over is to put my guitars in their cases so they don't get scars from people flinging cables and generally not paying attention. I think I'd still be worried about a guitar if I just stuck it in a gig bag and set it in a corner somewhere. I know plenty of people do it - I guess I'm just paranoid...

I bought my first Reunion Blues gig bag in 1977. I've used them ever since with no problems.

I think I might go THIS route....$710 standard, $770 Dee-luxe, not as dang heavy or big as a 'road case' and probably more protective. AND I'd save at least that much on chiropractic....www.caltoncases.com

Depends somewhat on the guitar, no.... I wouldn't trust my Warmoth Telecaster with anything less than a road-case. I can always wheedle my wife into carrying it. ;D Cheers: Dixiechicken

AND I'd save at least that much on chiropractic....www.caltoncases.com Yeah, Calton cases (out of Alberta, Canada) are expensive, but maybe the best there is. As Buddy says, full flight-case protection without the weight that almost always comes with "bulletproof" cases. There's a testimonial somewhere (maybe Calton's website?) from a mandolin player who accidentally backed his truck over his mando in a Calton case. Not only was the mando fine, but the case wasn't even hurt. Another story, from a touring band, goes that their tourbus caught on fire, but the Calton case saved the guitar. Crazy anecdotes aside, the cases are custom made, using precise measurements you take off your own instrument so that the fit is absolutely perfect. Cheers, Blair

I think Fender quit the tweed cases in about '59 and didn't start again until about '82 with the 52 reissues. If it's lacquered tweed you might have something old and of considerable value. I'd give you $100 for it! I've seen those Caton's with high dollar flat tops. Awesome!
