My 1995 jon jorgenson ASAT is my favourite guitar, really well balanced and it looks so cool... The only things that i don't like is the huge buzz i can get if i stay near the amp at gig level and the loosy jack socket that i will have to change one day.

G&L guitars? I like 'em. I like 'em alot ... but I also like Ernie Ball, Heritage and some of the Fender line-up too. d'oh ;D Had an ASAT for a while, but sold it out of necessity. Tried a Z-3 semi-hollow ... it got traded within a month. The last G&L I bought was a Legacy - nice maple neck with gun-oil, 3 single coils, aged white-guard, and tremolo. A beautiful Fullerton Red. Plays real nice and has a good solid weight to it. And of all the guitars I've ever had, my Legacy is the one guitar my wife has absolutely told me NOT to sell or trade. ;D

My ASAT Classic is my favorite "tele".
Incredible sounds, plays like buttah.
I did have some issues initially with microphonic feedback, but with the help of G&L customer service, and the G&L forum, they are no more.
Fantastic guit.

I've had some good ones and some bad ones...the good ones are really good, though!
My only complaint is the neck width...their standard sizes are too skinny and wide for my tastes. I did used to own a 50's style legacy, though, which had a beautiful bird's eye V neck that was just right...I think that was a special order from the factory, though.

I would say that the Fullerton I got from Nitehawk55 is the best playing/sounding guitar I have. It just matches real nice with the Dr Z. I just got a 94 Legacy that is real close but I would like to do a side by side, when my Fullerton gets back from G&L.. My 93 ASAT is very playable also.. I would say all in all that I don't have a G&L that I'm not happy with...

I had a very early ASAT. The first year or two have really low output pickups so watch out for those. Leo liked them that way but they were getting complaints and they soon woulnd the pickups hotter. That guitar also had a neck that didn't want to adjust so it went bye-bye.

Absolutely love them! I've owned about 20 to 25, and I can't say I've ever had a "bad" one. Currently, I have an ASAT semihollow w/o the f-hole that I don't see myself getting rid of. It has great acoustical sounds and just feels "alive" when I play it. Same for my Legacy; I've not played a better strat. I'm sure Andersons, Suhrs, and Groshes are very, very fine, but I'm not worthy; I figure if I start earning a living playing music, then I'll get one of those . . . But I digress. I've had at least one of every ASAT (except a Bluesboy, which is kinda strange. I'll get to it some day, though), and they were all a little different. I've never been disappointed, and some needed some tweaking, but they all could have been keepers. Tomorrow, I should be receiving an ASAT Super, and that one could become my new numero uno! Can't wait to hear it through my Maz! Actually, I see G&Ls and Dr. Zs as being similar in philosophy. They are pieces for enthusiasts and professionals alike. They are good enough to the point that any deficiencies (other than obvious defects) are probably due to the player. Also, they are priced in between your consumer-grade mass produced stuff and the really high-end custom-made boutique stuff. So you always feel like you have something unique and non-Guitar Center-esque but w/o having to lay out John Mayer income to buy one!

My goto guitar used to be my Telecaster, but lately it has been my Comanche. I think the bridge pickup gives me a pretty good tele tone, and there are a lot of very good pickup settings...middle(I'm one of the few who really like just the middle pickup), or bridge & neck together, plus all the strat combinations. I actually don't care for the 2/4 setting anymore, even on my strat. My favorite amp to match it to is my Carmen Ghia, but it sounds great into my Maz 38 Studio Deluxe too.

Bluesboy fan here. Semihollow, no f-hole, potted the Seth and the bridge pup. A wonderfully versatile guitar. Recently put on a P-92 for even more goodness.

I have an ASAT Special. I bought it at the local dealer's G&L clinic. I found the MFD pickups to be a bit on the ugly side, and I don't usually go for maple necks (this particular instrument had a birdseye maple neck and fretboard, black alder body and creme pickguard and pickup covers), but my son (who is mildly autistic) was in the store with me as I tried other G&Ls and kept insisting "that one". Well, it blew me away as sort wild "Super-Tele", and I loved the feel of the neck.
As I waited a couple of weeks for an award from work (which was going to finance the purchase of a G&L) to come through, I went back to that ASAT again and again.
The night of the G&L clinic, we were treated to the guitar mastery of Will Ray (Hellecasters, session & solo artist). I love Will's playing, and Mrs. Huckleberry became a quick convert (she still says today that Will's rendition of "Orange Blossom Special" was one of the most amazing things she's ever heard).
When his set and G&L promoting was done, he asked for volunteers to jam. Mrs. Huckleberry's elbow connected to my ribs (evil woman!), and my arm shot out. Now, in the audience was some of the local "scene"'s hottest players. Cowards! I was one of only 2 volunteers. An older gentleman went up and played with Will to a backing tracking track, using a sunburst semi-hollow Bluesboy model (Tele w/neck humbucker).
I walked up to the stage for my turn, and the Bluesboy was handed to me. I hesitated: most of the store's G&L inventory was lined up on stands on either side. I grabbed the ASAT my son picked (I had gotten used to it, after all). Armed with the ASAT, a BluesDriver pedal, and a Peavey Classic 30 amp, I jammed a blues in A with WILL RAY!!!!!! I'm a blues-rock pentatonic player with a couple of stale 80's tricks up my sleeve, but I think I did okay. The point is: I dared to do it. Afterwards, Will chatted and posed for pics with me & the Mrs., and signed the CDs we bought.
Well, the guitar came home with me. And has been here ever since. My son still says "I picked that!" when I pull it out to play, and it still gives me a shiver to think I traded licks with a player I respect that much. And what a souvenier: custom shop quality, a truly unique sound, and it feels like an old friend.

I know I sound like a paid ad for G&L's on this forum but after 5 months and quite a few gigs my ASAT classic custom has been great in every aspect. I do like the new necks better, I have a 2002 classic, bigger and beefier works for me these days....And the larger front pick up is cool. I like the standard classic front pick up too..they just do everything I need them to do. I play in a cover band where half the stuff is cool and the other half is...work. They stay in tune, sound great, play great and are easy to adjust. They come with 10's and I put on .011's...

I'd sure like to know what you did to eliminate the feedback. Pretty simple. Once Darth Invader (over at the GnL Board) had determined it wasn't the pups, the only place left was the bridge. Some ASATs vibrate the bridge plate at high volumes, which produces feedback. Don't know why, but it does. There are two ways to approach this: 1. You can apply double-sided tape to the underside of the bridge plate. or 2. Melt a candle (in my case, a candle off my elder son's 4th birthday cake - better tone from birthday cake candles, don't you know), & apply the wax to the underside of the bridge plate, then bolt it back on. Easy. Hope that helps.

That's what I thought too, at first. Even had the dealer replace the bridge pup, which helped, but didn't eliminate the problem. The wax worked like a charm, tho'.

I did it on my 52 reissue Tele only I just used a couple of layers of duct tape. Those stamped steel bridge plates are thin enough flex and then howl. That might be one reason that Danny Gatton had someone stamp one out of stainless steel for him. Last weekend I played an ASAT thru a VOX AC15 HW. That was a GOOD sounding guitar.

Last year I bought an early 90's ASAT with the P-90 style pickups. The price was right and it's become one of my favorites. The neck seemed a little skinny at first but now I find I really like it. It came with jumbo frets which I replaced with mediums. One feature that I really is the three bolt neck that is easily adjusted for tilt. This has allowed me to fine tune the action myself quickly and easily. This feature has been eliminated from new G&L's just as it was from Fenders years ago. This was done to improve sustain which I sure it does but my ASAT still has excellent sustain even with the three bolt neck.
