do any of you guys have tips on how to play the old merle travis song 'cannonball rag'? the finger placement for the chords is really messing with me

Man, that is some great playin'. If you look at his thumb playin' bass, and the middle and ring playing the melody, it actually looks possible for mere mortals like us to play. I sure can't 'get' it though, it's like playing piano to me, and I've worked on it some. I read where when (studio guitar legend for you young 'uns) Tommy Tedesco finally met Duane Eddy, he said, "I've got ONE question for you-- "Did anyone ever ask YOU to play like Tommy Tedesco?"

Duane's great. I really think his known material has him limited to single note runs and simple sounding stuff so when you hear something like this you definitely have to take notice. It's kind of cool in a way. He's a sleeper.
