"Mad Professor Introduces the Golden Cello Pedal - The Guitar Center exclusive pedal features cello-like singing overdrive combined with the most luscious open ambient tape delay"
Hmmmmmmm OD and tape delay in a single footprint......

huh...sounds good, but i think i would have to rethink how i view my pedal board with respect to placement, stacking, and general flow of signal.
might be great if you only had one or two pedals in your arsenal.

Tried one of these briefly at GC in Edina, MN, today. The OD section works pretty well, though of course it's hard to tell much playing an American Standard Strat through a Hotrod Deville set at about 1. At that volume, the OD seemed a bit thin/fizzy, but through a decent amp at a more normal volume it might be fine. The weird thing is that the delay control only controls the level--you can't control the delay time or number of repeats, unless there are internal controls I don't know about. Still--not that useful for me. When I use delay I use it for everything from rockabilly slap to Red House, and a lot of background stuff in between.

Yeah, There are 4 internal trim pots for delay control. This is more fuzz than od. Nice sounding box!

Okay--makes sense. But then you'd need two delays, if you were me. Or you'd have to be really quick with a screwdriver.

I posted another thread on this before seeing this one - oops!
EJ in a Box to my ears - not a bad thing, but limiting. Sounds killer though, for what it does!

I am really interested in this pedal and would like to hear from anyone who has had a chance to play it in the real world with a band.

OK guys, I couldn't resist and so I bought one. I went to GC to try one out but couldn't really tell much in the store. I decided to take a chance and take it home anyway. Here's what I have found so far. It definitely needs to be played with a clean amp setting and probably no other effects except MAYBE a little reverb. The delay is about as wet as you could possibly want. The "drive " control is for a Fuzz Face type tone which is what I expected. It has that characteristic low frequency buzz and compression. They did a very good job of getting the sound of that pedal without losing the definition of the notes. That can be a real problem with some fuzz pedals. There is very little information about what the internal switches do and I have not changed anything from the stock setting so far. I have played it with my JAZ, my MAZ Jr, and my '68 Vibrolux Reverb and I think it likes my JAZ the best but then most of my pedals are like that. It really prefers my Strat on just the bridge pick-up.
This isn't going to be a pedal that I use a lot but I think it's going to stay on my board because it sounds so much different than anything else I have. Although I will never sound like EJ they did a very good job of putting his signature sounds in one box. All in all, a great value for the money.

I've seen this advertised as a Guitar Center only pedal but it is in the latest Musicians Friend catalog.

Guitar Center owns Musicians Friend. They both ship from the same warehouse.

I almost feel guilty for getting sucked into the hype......., but I called up Guitar Center in Grand Rapids and had them ship me one. The main website said they were out, but I got lucky and the GC south of me had two. It arrived today and I ran home over lunch because I knew the missus was at work and the kids were all out doing summer fun stuff which meant I could crank my amp.
I realized quickly that I'd left my main tele at the rehearsal space, so I grabbed a new les paul I picked up last month and plugged in to the Maz-18R. I was having so much damn fun with just Gibson>cable>Maz18, that I forgot to turn on the Golden Cello...... The sustain when you cranked the volume on the amp past clean into slightly-fuzzy and into getting-furry was awesome and I have Dr.Z-ADD. I get distracted from everything else that's going on when I'm plugged into a Z.
Then I clicked the Cello. Everything was basically at noon. It went from awesome to Awesomer.... HUGE tone. I had to smile. Very Eric Johnson-y. I didn't touch any of the internal trim pots and just ran it stock. But it was a big, massive Cliffs of Dover-esqu tone.
I only spent about 15 minutes with it. I've got to figure out where it's gonna sit on the board and between which pedals. I took off my Lovepedal Superlead and BBB and I'm going to put the Cello in and reintroduce the Eternity or the AC+. Not quite sure which. I'm playing a 3 day music fest south of town on Friday. Martin Sexton is one of the headliners. [www.sleepybearmusic.com]
I'm looking forward to the look on the other guitarist's face when I let Eric out of the box during Grey Funnel Lines. He's gonna $hit.
