I've got a Fender American Standard tele with a Seymour Duncan JD pickup in the bridge. The thing is so dang microphonic I could record vocals with it! Any noise on the guitar, clear down to the headstock, comes through the amp clearly. I'm starting to wonder if the JD is defective.
I play though a Carmen Ghia, with an Xotic BB for dirt. With the BB on and set for a fair amount of dirt, I can't get the volume on my CG up past 9 o'clock without the bridge p/u howling. Firmly touching the bridge or the pickup does not stop it.
For the record, I have: stuffed the p/u cavity with foam, and re-potted the p/u.
I know tele pickups are prone to being microphonic, but this bad?
Suggestions? Ideas?

Did you re-pot it yourself of have someone do it for you? Ive heard that can be a tricky process.

I repot it myself. My wife owns a salon and has a specially built parafin heater. I followed the instructions on Lindy Fralin's site to the letter.
I've had a few people tell me that using silicon on the base plate might work. I think I'm going to try that next.
At this point it's looking like I'm going to be in the market for a new pickup anyway, so what have a got to lose?
Maybe I'll give the Fralin Blues Specials a try...can anyone compare them to the JD?

If you like your pickups a little hot, try the Rio Grande Muy Grande tele pickups. I love mine and you can't beat the price.

I would have assumed it was the bridge plate on the Tele but you seem to have addressed that. As a final check on that you could detune the guitar, loosen the bridge and hold it out of the cavity then check it thru the amp. If it won't howl like that then you've found the problem. If it's still howl-o-ween then the pickup just has to go.
