I have a G&L asat classic semi-hollow which has been a great guitar except for one thing-- a hideously designed switchcraft input jack. This jack has a small internal ball bearing and spring setup to provide tension on an inserted jack. Nice idea but the spring gets weak and there is no adjustment. I have been dealing with the noisy loose jack problem for way too long and didn't want to replace it with another jack which will go bad soon enough.
Lo and behold a friend brought over one of those Planet Waves cables with the plug which has these expansion springs built into into the plug. Voila! perfect connection that does not just pop out of the guitar. I get a great signal no problem. Next thing I did was go and see what else they made. I checked out and bought their circuit breaker guitar cable. Now I can plug and unplug onstage running full up on my amp and no pop! Hopefully it last for a decent time. I dig this cord so far.
If anybody else has used this cord let me know your experiences.
Adios amigos and Senoritas (Jen!)

I play a old ASAT that had the same problem. It vanished when I started using Amphenol jacks. Perfect fit! Why? As it was told to me alot of cheap jacks are made a tiny bit smaller than the Switchcraft specs to avoid paying manufacturing royalties. That story may be BS but the quality of Amphenol jacks is for real and they offer good fit for ASATs

Funny - when I saw the title, I thought you might need a suggestion and I was going to say try that Planet Waves cable.
I also use the circuit breaker PW cable for my stage acoustic. I found that the only way to ensure no feedback when the acoustic was not being played on stage was to hit the button on that cable. (I know...a good sound guy would take care of that, but...that's another story...)
Cheers, Blair

May try it as a replacement.

Usually I am on stage and the sound guy I played one show with a real sound guy and I was happy not to run back and forth to the board. We even got paid! Good times......

you can't replace the jack with a regular switchcraft jack? the type of jack in question is designed to be installed without a backing plate, its a nice deal except for the failures. A standard jack could be used but it may require a plate to install the jack too and then the plate to the body of guitar. Not a hard thing except for matching the curve of the body. Todd

Funny thing about those ASATs and thier jacks. That's the one thing about 'em that's been sort of an Achille's hill. Anyway, I, too, have started using a Plantet Waves cord, and the problems are solved. I also use their fret polishing pads, and they seem to be doing a great job of keep the frets clean so that they don't develop grooves. Cool li'l company, PWs!

Planet Waves cables are the best sounding cables in the sub $50.00 range ever. I would even compare them sonically to cables twice the price. Plus the spring plug is perfect. I use their stuff to wire my pedal board and NEVER have a loose cable.

Funny thing about those ASATs and thier jacks. That's the one thing about 'em that's been sort of an Achille's hill. That & the uncontrollable feedback. Some them have pickups that howl like a banshee because of some interesting mounting decisions. Others feed back because of vibrations from the bridge plate (like mine). A little wax or double sided tape to damp things down solves that. If I sound like I'm down on G&L, I'm not. My ASAT, after a little TLC (& a birthday candle) is issue free & one of my favorite guitars. Plus, ownership can be reached directly through the G&L Discussion Page. Their customer service is fantastic - like a certain amp company I can think of... Not bad.

I've been enjoying the Planet Waves cables. It seemed like a lot of cables wouldn't sit in my acoustic properly and the PW's really lock well into all my guitars - plus the gold plated plugs make for a nice clean signal.
