I just purchased a Monza with the Master Volume Mod and love the grind. I'm not particularly fond of the cleanup and wonder if users have had success with 12ay7s, 12at7s etc Also, the amp is very dark with several guitars while the tone is maxed. So I guess I'm looking for a less gainey but brighter tube options! Any advice and experiences are appreciated. I'm not at all concerned with some loss of gain as this amp is definitely a monster...even volume and gain at 11 is very gainy. If I have to compensate by pushing them to 2 I'm not worried

I would try a different speaker too, the red fang does feel a little darker than some of the celestians I have in the house. I like the clean boost idea as well, that will often times give you a little more high end presence much like a buffer will. don't give up on the amp yet

Early on Don from the shop told me a 12at7 would make it brighter - it did

I run a clean boost with mine almost all the time to brighten it up....works great.... That's an idea I have been tossing around as well, a boost with eq options was what I was thinking...or a straightforward treble boost. Or maybe an EQ pedal? Or a different speaker? Which one do you have in there? What guitars/ pickups are you using? Duh, I didn't even think of an eq pedal!. It is a Red Fang and this is my first experience with this type of speaker. I'm using a Gibson Les Paul 57 VOS, Reverend's Buckshot and Reeves Gabrels, Hanson Cigno and Gretsch 5120. The pickups are stock save for the Gretsch (which has TV Jones Classics). There is SOME treble but only when dimed. From noon to five the difference isn't very dramatic either. don't give up on the amp yet There's no plans to give up as I love the range of distortion. It's definitely a monster. I may try the 12AT7 idea ( in V1, V2 or both? And which is V1, closest to the input jack?) since I want it brighter yet I want to plug straight in. Early on Don from the shop told me a 12at7 would make it brighter - it did That sounds about right, a ut7 wouldn't make any sense. Thanks everyone for the feedback As an aside, I just traded my Maz 8...it basically had too many options for what I needed! I don't need effects loops, triode/pentode change, hi/lo etc. Fantastic amp but I have a couple of others that are similar, which is why I bought the Monza. It's definitely a different animal from my Goodsell, Samamp and 65amps I play through.
