While removing a speaker from my Z 1x12 cabinet the screw broke off. So now I have a speaker mounted with only 3. Where do I get the matching screw and hmmm not sure what its called but its the female to the male that it hammered into the cabinet. I assume I have to remove that since the old screw is stuck in the threading.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
**EDIT** I think they are called T Nuts?

I've never looked at mine, but you are describing a T-Nut. You'll need the same size as you have in there already. Remove the speaker and put it in a safe place, then use a screwdriver to punch out the old T-Nut. Take care that you don't push it through your grill cloth. Then take the old T-Nut to the hardware store and get a new one and matching screw. Take one of the screws you removed from the speaker with you so you know the new T-Nut threads on there correctly, and so you get the right length on the new screw.
Reverse the procedure to install the T-Nut and you are there.

You can get the t nuts or whatever they are called from any good hardware store. They should have the screw too. They are both standard sizes. Bring along one of the good screws so you can get the right size of both. A tip when putting it in is to put a dab of silicone or something similar under the t nut before you pound it in to hold it in case you poke it out a bit before the screw is tight. Also rather than prying out the old one I would try and tap it out with a screw or nail on the inside against the broken screw. It will do less damage. One other tip, never use a gun when tightening down a speaker. Don't ask how I know all this.

Thanks Guys! Another quick question.........If I remove all the wood screws from the inside of the cabinet will the entire baffle come out in 1 piece out the front so I can poke the old t nut out without ruining the grill cloth>?

Can't help you there since the one I did it on was a combo cab, but for what it's worth that did come out in one piece. Or at least the lower half did. On the combo the valance and the lower part are connected. Whatever you do remember take your time.

A little off topic maybe, but...
The screws holding any speaker in place should never be tightened down so much as to cause one to break. They only need to be snug. If one is worried about the speaker loosening up after hours of loud playing, they could recheck the mounting screws after a gig and snug them up a little more, but most people way overtighten the speaker mounting nuts, imo. If the frame of the speaker is bending - at all - it's too tight.
On a speaker cab that wasn't converted from a combo cab, the whole front baffle ought to come out as one piece, I think.
Best, Eddie
