G&L are some of the best bang for the buck guitars out there, IMHO! I bought a Tribute ASAT Classic (Tele) about 6 months ago. I was blown away by the quality of the guitar. Built in Korea, but you'd never know it. The pickups really surprised me. That's usually the first thing I change in most any guitar. But the made in California MFD pickups aren't going anywhere! They clean up for true "Tele" twang, but will growl when opened up. I did upgrade the electronics. The bridge is a very nice one, but I changed it out for one of Bill Callaham's. His have lower sides, a treble side cutout and three compensated saddles. It was well worth it to me - much more comfortable. The only minor complaint I have, is the weight of the guitar. Otherwise, it's definitely a "play-uh." Oh, and the gig bag is a real nice one too. Enjoy! Ray K.

Those are the best 'cheap' guitars on the market. Give the stock pups a shot - they're flat, punchy and clean. Pretty solid output. That basswood body should give it a snappier tone.
If in a few days you're not into the MFD's, completely gut the electronics and hook - it - up!

Actually, it's a Legacy, so it doesn't have the MFD pickups. These are the "vintage style" alnico V's according to the G & L website. They'll be fine as long as they aren't too over-wound. That's sometimes the mistake the cheaper guitars make. Overwinding the pickups to make up for cheap quality. However, apparently the Korean G &L's and PRS guitars stand out in the budget series..

I think the stock G&L alnico single coils are better than many after market boutique strat pups. I've tried a bunch in my George Fullerton model and always seem to come back to the stock neck and middle pup with an HD S-90 in the bridge. Just my 2 cents.
