I just purchased a used Dr. Z EZG 50 head. I had been searching for the Fender Blackface tone since my 64 Fender Pro Reverb was stolen 6 years ago. This amp delivered more than I expected. Now, I'm looking to pair this head with a 4x10 cabinet. I'm trying to decide which speakers to purchase. I've read many other threads relating to this subject. However, I'm having a tough time since there are so many to choose from. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy an Air Brake since I live in an apartment complex.

Welcome! Congrats on the first Z. I haven't heard that model in person but have no doubts it is amazing.
A 4x10 in an apartment!?? Whoa. Def need attenuation.

Welcome aboard. The doc's 4x10s sound great with the EZG 50 Yes, the Dr Z 4x10 pairs up really well with the EZG-50. It is loud. You'll probably want an Air Brake or other attenuator.

Thanks for the greetings. I'm definitely purchasing the Air Brake and most likely the 4x10 cabinet. Anyone have suggestions for an overdrive pedal? I once had a Tube Screamer, but later sold it. I'm thinking of a Wampler Paisley.
Thanks

I haven't purchased the Dr Z 4x10 cabinet yet, but I'm saving up. I was tired of waiting so I purchased a used Marshall 4x12 cab for less than 150. All I can say is WOW! Incredible tone! Can't wait till I get a 4x10 cabinet!

Congrats and welcome. A clean boost and an OD would be cool. For a clean boost, I love my Creation Audio Labs MK.4.23 Overdrive. Up to 24dB of crystal clear boost that really adds to the quality of your tone without coloration, just fatness and breakup. Distortion side I'm using a Fultone Plimsoul, Flynn Amps Rory Gallagher Hawk Booster and Wampler Ecstasy. All great stuff.

Congratulations! The EZG-50 is indeed an amazing amp! I use mine with a 2x12" (V30) Kings Cabinet. Made in Holland! www.guitarking.nl/index.php?Kings-cabinets In my 30+ years of playing I've never heard such a great combination.

Thanks for the link. Interesting cabs. I'm even thinking of a Geezer 4x10 cabinet.

Using a 1x12 combo sitting on top of a 2x10 shorty cab.
