I posted this same question about a Maz...if Im looking at used models have there been any changes over the years I should be aware of?
Also wondering if anyone has ever played a Ray with Greenbacks? I'd like the combo with the Blues, but I have a cab with greens I could use right now so Im curious.

Greens are Killer with the ray! I have 2 period Correct greenback 12M. And they really sound great. If you want versitility a Ceramic speaker or a Gold Loaded cab is the way to go. The greenbacks and GH30 ish speakers will give the Ray that big Marshally sound while still chimey like an old Vox . Im not a fan of Blues . Its just not my cup of tea for how and what I play. The Ray will not dissapoint with any speaker. Good Luck I hope you purchase a Z Amp regardless. The Model they are all great

To the best of my knowledge there were no circuit changes to StangRay. Only thing that has changed is name. First 50 are named StingRay. Ernie Ball let Doc know that he had the name for one of his basses and suggested that Doc might want to rethink the name. It became the MantaRay for a millisecond then StangRay.

Cool, thanks guys.
Good to hear about the greens too...I was never a fan of Blues with my Vox, but they did sound pretty darned good in the Ray combo I played. Still, I've always preferred greens so I think I may just opt for the head and the speakers I have.

I run a pair of 2x10 cabs w/Greenbacks - and they sound fantastic with the Ray. Gives almost an acoustic like tone that sounds so good for clean picking. The RAY can cover a lot of different tonal shades, with different speakers.
