Long shot here, but worth asking.
Does anyone own a Z Wreck within 40 miles of Portland, OR? If so, would anyone be willing to let me try it out for a very short time?
I'm 95% sure this amp is exactly what I want. I've researched it to death, read and watched every video/article online, etc... Apple Music in Portland has a few Dr. Z's that are simply AMAZING. I can only imagine the Z Wreck is even better. (although that's hard to fathom)
Has anyone bought this amp without trying it first? If so, did you regret it? I've never bought a musical instrument without playing it. For $3,700 it makes me a little nervous.
Thanks Ben

I bought my Z Wreck without actually playing through one first. I watched many of the Youtube videos and read the posts in this Z forum. I have to say that the Z Wreck in person is way better sounding than on the videos. If you dig the tone from the videos, the sound will be all that plus more 3 dimensional in person. I have no regrets about buying my Z Wreck.

I hate to tell you this, but, I'm sure there are some folks out there that have tried the Z Wreck before they bought it. However, I think MOST people with them bought the amp unheard. Especially the first few batches, most all were purchased sight unseen. In fact, I've bought every one of my Z amps unheard. ;D All were great. Some fitted my needs better than others, but I've narrowed it to the 3 that work best for me now. Buy with confidence. The Z Wreck will not disappoint!!

Yeah I bought one too solely based on Youtube, especially Jason Hobbs' videos. Like a previous poster said, sounds better in person and the projection is awesome. hope someone hooks you up for a test drive you will be amazed.

I think if you spend that much money on anything you will convince yourself it was worth it. But in this case, I really would be right! I played a Z Wreck at Make N Music awhile back but in the small room I couldn't really open it up w/o hurting myself. Plus, things always sound better in your space with your guitars and pedals or whatever. It was impressive, however.

I played a Z-wreck head through a standard Z 2-12 cab in a music store. I used a store tele and my tricked up sheraton. Then I ordered a Quantum Silver. I can honestly say that until I heard the wreck with the cab it was designed to work with I had no idea how it really sounded.
The best analogy I got tonight is: Would you think a Ferrari or a Lamborghini was worth the difference in money from a Corvette if you'd only driven one in a high school parking lot with Sears snow tires on it?
Probably not.. ....open up a well setup one on the road through the Stelvio pass in Italy on a beautiful day or US1, or Rt89a in Arizona and you might go rob banks to get one. Just sayin....
The Z-Wreck is not a good amp. I've owned 40 years worth of good amps.
It's a great amp.
Z-Wreck is to ___________ (fill in very good amps here: Mesa, Rivera, Matchless, 64 Bassman, Magnatone, AC30) As Ferrari F40 is to 63 Corvette Stingray.

I'm pretty sure the majority of us bought them without ever playing one. I know I did. I was not disappointed.

Master Paisley brought that virus on me... and I never get rid of it. Never tried one before. Love my Wreck - goes with me into my grave. Get one and listen then, the only solution Cheers, Beddez

Guilty too I bought #12 with only a Carmen Ghia as pre Z experience and figured if the Wreck sounded that good on the videos out there it had to be killer in 3D. Was not disappointed.
