Just found some NOS Made in England Mullard 12ax7s and tried them in my Wreck earlier today.
Not too much difference, a bit smoother with some extra compression. It's nothing that anyone at a gig listening would hear but more of a feel thing, if that makes any sense.

The "feel thing" you referred to makes perfect sense. Most people in the audience can't tell the difference in the tone or breakup between new and NOS tubes. However a good player can feel the difference and it makes them perform better and that's what it's all about. Most listeners CAN tell that.

I personally tubes my Zwreck with a Tungsram in V1 A Pre-war EI in V2 and a Tungsram in V3.
I used a NOS Mullard Gz34 with a four notched plate
and it sounds FANTASTIC!
Kenny used that tube combination in his Trainwrecks.
The EL84's that are shipped with the Zwreck were the same tubes that Kenny also used!!!
